03: First SnowWord Count: 862
Summary: Brought together by a chain of seemingly coincidental instances, they all thought of the snow differently.
Notes: KH-verse. Like you expected anything else?
Asuka had never seen snow before. Desuya wasn’t exactly known for its cold winters-hell, it wasn’t really known for its winters at all. So when the weather finally gave in and the snow finally started to gently fall, it shocked him right out of complaining about the cold entirely.
“What’s this…?” he asked warily, eyeing the sky as though it was about to break and fall down on top of him. “And why is it… cold?”
Hito sighed in exasperation, used to Asuka’s inanities but still somehow never prepared for them. “It’s called snow, Asuka. You know, happens when it’s cold and the weather feels like being insane?”

“Hey, Asuka! Sunshine didn’t want me to tell you this, but when it snows? Really, the sky is falling. On your head.”
“Ai…”

Hito’s first reaction to the snow (aside from any exasperation at Asuka’s routine ignorance) was to panic. Even though he wasn’t in Hikarli Town any more, the presence of snow made him think of the ever-raging snowstorm that always loomed just on the other side of the pass.
It’s spreading! his mind was telling him in horror as he looked to the grey skies above. The insane weather was spreading to all the worlds!
“Hey, I can catch it on my tongue!”
Only then Asuka was in his face, looking both bewildered and amused all at the same time. “How come you didn’t tell me it was just water, kid? I thought tadpoles liked water!”
Hito stared back at him uncomprehendingly. He only had one question for the older man.
“Why are you insane?!”

Scar was used to seeing snow. In Anire it was commonplace once they’d reached the winter months-admittedly the snow that fell there didn’t remain pristine and pure for long, though. It was a huge city; the snow was stamped into water by shoes and made a grungy black by carriage wheels usually before noontime had even passed. So he had never liked it. The melted snow would later freeze into ice, and in the meantime it soaked his pants and robe halfway up to the knee and when it dried, left crystallized tracks of where it had been.
But standing just outside of the village of Nottingham and looking out at the weighted trees… he felt peace in his heart.

Ailanne hated snow. He hated it, and if anyone were to ask him why, he had a dozen different reasons he could flip through to explain it away, even if none of them were ever the truth. It was everything about it: the cold, the wind, and beyond all else the way it slowly transformed everything from familiar to foreign and threw his internal compass all out of whack.
So when it started snowing in London, he turned his eyes to the sky and glared.

“Hey, Cel?”
“What is it?”
Bre looked up from his fingertips, where he’d just managed to catch a falling snowflake. “It’s ice. It’s tiny crystals of ice-if you catch one, it’ll melt on contact.”
She saw where he was going with this. “You wanna know if we could make our own snow through magic, don’t you?”
Bre was enthralled because he loved to explain away the world. Cel was excited because in this case, she would be able to help him do so.

It rarely snowed in Madacikub.
It was one of the northernmost towns in all of Coriolis, and that meant that they rarely ever saw conditions for snow. It was warm all year round, but every so often, it would get cold enough that they would see a light dusting of snow.
Wave loved it when it snowed.
She wasn’t in Coriolis any more; that world felt like a lifetime ago to her now. But when she stepped off the train in London, hand-in-hand with Ai… she felt for an instant that wonder she always had when she would wake to snow on the ground in Madacikub.
Later on, the wind started to pick up and whistle, and the snow on the ground cut up and flew as well. They watched it together from the safety of a little room at the inn-but when the storm itself died down and the snow began to gently fall once more, Wave was out the door in a flash.
She stood outside, face turned to the sky and her eyes closed tight, feeling the cold and the way the flakes felt on her face.
And she could be a little girl again, just for that moment.

Later on, Asuka snuck back outside, finding a bench that he could dust the snow off of so that he could sit and watch it fall.
It was weird, it was weird beyond belief. It was unnatural-who had ever heard of water falling from the sky in any shape or form?-but, if he were truly honest… it was calming. It was calming, and although he still hated how very different and strange the rest of the worlds were from Desuya… he was okay with it.
And he wished she could be there to see it with him.
