Assorted: game drabblets, 03

Apr 02, 2008 23:42

Yes, yes, I'm still continuing the drabblets I wrote for caer-awen. XD; As before, all of these are 100 words or under.

Prompt: 155 - something blue
Characters: Kaz, Asuka
Word Count: 100

Kaz had a history of doing strange things.

That didn't mean Asuka was ever prepared for it, though. “Oi, Kaz.”

“What, ‘Suki?”

“What in the name of the Maiden possessed you to go and dye your hair dark blue?”

“To match my tattoos. See how well it matches?” the man drawled, smirking grin on his face as per usual.

As Kaz tugged a strand of shoulder-length hair over his shoulder, holding it up to the tattoos just below his eyes for comparison, Asuka made a mental note never to ask something like that again.

It just wasn’t worth it.

Prompt: 170 - paradigm shift
Characters: Asuka, Kaz, Cel
Word Count: 99

“This has got to be a dream. Some sort of screwed-up dream. Right, Cel?”

“Right, ‘Suki.” Cel was nodding. “Right, Kaz?”

“I don’t know; I kind of like it all…”

“Kaz!”

“I agree entirely. Incredibly strange. Weird. …What’re those… weird… leaf-y things?”

The expanse of land before them… it was green.

“Shouldn’t it be yellow? I mean-this can’t be normal… can it?”

Asuka shook his head. “But what if… I don’t know. What if it is?”

They all exchanged glances. It couldn’t possibly be that Desuya was the exception to the rule. It was this land that was strange.

Prompt: 176 - there are no heroes-only broken men
Characters: Asuka
Word Count: 100

They’d said he was a hero for holding out.

What he could never tell any of them was how he’d managed it.

Head down, withdrawn from the world. Silent-remember that time when Kaz dyed Bre’s hair purple on accident? His girls pouncing him when he’d come home? Dancing at Lu’uz, training at the academy.

All he could do was live in his memories.

It took the pain away from what he was going through then.

They’d said he was a hero for holding out.

How could he be a hero when he’d only done the things he wanted to forget?

Prompt: 062 - the price paid
Characters: Bre, Asuka
Word Count: 91

A month later, Bre was home and Asuka was subdued as ever. Strange, seeing him walk quietly by-usually he would have been the one shouting after other people.

“Bre.” He tugged a cigarette out of his pack, holding it out towards his younger brother. “Wanna light me?”

“Can’t you do it yourself?” Bre was suspicious.

“Nope.”

When it came to having his brother back with him or playing with fire-well, he’d choose to use his little brother as a lighter any day of the week.

It was worth giving it up.

Prompt: 045 - take me home
Characters: Bre, Cel
Word Count: 100

He’d changed so much since she’d last seen him. He’d grown taller, his shoulders had broadened, and he actually had muscle now.

But still-he was the same.

She leaned into him, burying her face in his shirt. She couldn’t look at how much he’d changed-not straight on. It was too strange. “I’m so tired…” she mumbled, an excuse.

Without speaking, he crouched slightly, wrapping an arm around her knees and scooping her into his arms. She glanced at him, surprised-he just smiled.

She smiled too, head leaning into his shoulder. “Can we just… go home?”

“Yeah. Let’s go home.”
