She watched, crouched behind the couch, as her mother endured yet another dose of the telepath-suppression drug. She watched her mother’s eyes glaze over, almost lifeless, and her hand fall limply to her side. Her mother had always been warm, but now she seemed hollow.
Susan crawled out of her hiding space, and slowly made her way towards her mother. She grasped her mother’s limp hand in her own. But as Susan’s light, mental touch brushed her mother’s mind, she shivered. She could no longer feel the warm, comfort of her mother’s mind, and she wept, feeling desperately alone.
