I'm pretty sad that this didn't win, as I'm fairly fond of it -- though the one that did win definitely deserved it. I guess that's what I get for entering something to a community that houses such fantastic writers, eh? ;)
"Why won't you die?" Inuyasha screamed in frustration as he brought Tetsusaiga down upon the head of the boar demon for the third time.
"Look out --!" Kagome's warning tapered off as Inuyasha was swatted effortlessly to the side by the enraged demon, hitting the ground with a bone-shattering thump. "Inuyasha!" she cried, darting over to where he lay, and running her hands worriedly over him, checking for broken bones. He stirred with a pain-filled moan, using Tetsusaiga as leverage to pull himself up to a standing position.
"Stop, Inuyasha," Kagome said forcefully, leaning her body against his own for support. "You're hurt, and whacking it over the head with Tetsusaiga obviously isn't working. We need a new plan."
"Keh," he replied, standing up fully and slinging his sword over his shoulder, ignoring the pain from his protesting muscles. "Why do we need a new plan?"
She stared at him incredulously for a moment, oblivious to everything but his apparent insanity. "What makes you think that hitting him again will produce a different result from the last three times you did it?"
He didn't answer, springing with a deft swiftness up into the air and bringing Tetsusaiga crashing down upon the demon's head once more. However, to Kagome's chagrin and amazement, Tetsusaiga's blade cut the skin of the boar, sending the jewel shard flying and splitting his skull.
"See?" Inuyasha said smugly as he landed gracefully in a pool of the defeated demon's blood. "I told ya so."
