And I'm gobbling up popcorn at the display of the fans screaming and wailing (both on the Inspirit and the EXO fans side) like they aren't going to salivate over the next thing either groups put out.
Here's a brief list of Things That Didn't Want to Happen (No Really), But Eventually We Gave In And Started Loving
+ Remember when SNSD debuted and everyone wailed about them hanging around Dong Bang oppars and Suju oppars, and fanclub tensions got to the point of a Black Ocean? Now SNSD are the top earners in SME and everyone loves them to the point of worship.
+ Remember when CSJH/The Grace and Zhang Liyin were getting shelved and there was a very (or maybe that was just the corner I was in) vocal minority crying out for SM to give them more attention? SM didn't, they were put into storage, and now struggle for relevance. Not one of SM's finer moments but hey, we all got used to it.
+ Remember when Super Junior announced they were adding two new members and the fandom outcry was so fucking loud I could hear it over in American Idol fanfic corner (or wherever fandom I was in, idk, it was a long time ago mmkay)? Well now Henry and Zhou Mi both have staunch supporters, and any negativity from the Only-13ers are heavily condemned by most in the fandom.
+ Speaking of Super Junior, remember when Hangeng raised the lawsuit and EVERYONE LOST THEIR MINDS AND THERE WERE SO MANY TEARS EVEN I COULD HEAR IT FROM (I think this was) INCEPTION FANDOM?!?! Now Hangeng has a solo career and Super Junior is still releasing generic dance tracks. To disparage either's career since the lawsuit would be disrespectful to the progress (or not) they've made since.
+ Speaking of lawsuits, remember that big one? The one with TVXQ, the one that is still making people emotional, the one that severely altered the landscape of k-pop and the ways companies treated their employees, the one that is still ongoing (at least until JYJ gets to show their face on musical public broadcast), the one that a lot of people still mourn even after like five years? They all kept making music. They all continued with their activities. Now, most people acknowledge that TVXQ and JYJ are two separate groups, and some even like one group without liking the other. If this hurts your Cassie heart, get over it already.
+ And this is a more minor one, but remember the 17 fucking teasers of EXO and how most people were like "DEAR GAWD IT'S KAI AND THE BACKUP DANCERS" and "JFC IM LOSING SO MUCH INTEREST" and "LOL THEY'RE GONNA FLOP SO HARD"? Well, EXO made it to a sophomore comeback with
a song that didn't suck and survived one of the
worst blunders of a song to ever happen to a k-pop group. Additionally, they're gonna be around for a long time since most of them are fetuses and they're backed by one of the most powerful entertainment companies AND
some of them are actually talented.
+ Lastly, this merge with Woolim and SM C&C, and news of Infinite/Nell joining the SMTOWN tour? I know it hurts right now. Change is hard and sometimes it sucks too. But don't worry, one day, you too will get used to the taste of Infinite being in SM and be craving whatever it is SM C&C has to feed you. Now calm your testicles and take several seats. It's just business. :)
