Haha, I still live in Dallas right now, but I grew up in Taiwan. I've never been to South Korea before, but everything I hear about them is very similar to my country--both of them are relatively small with high population density, both of them have similar values when it comes to schooling and family, and both are collectivist to an extreme.

Taiwan has idols too, and I remember that my mom didn't like them because (1) they were silly always jumping around acting "stupid", (2) they dressed oddly for attention, and (3) they're not talented, just marketed. In fact, most of my girl cousins have never been idol fangirls, and it wasn't a point of conversation, so it was a situation (I'm sure, similar in Korea) where most people knew about them, but they were just a catchy song on the radio, not actual people you should emulate. The level of worship is quite different, and I'm sure that difference is a result of the amount of westernization in both countries. That's a whole 'nother topic of conversation though haha. ^^;;

(Lol I was wondering how you found my journal, I'm glad you like my writings! :D)
