This year, for
spn_j2_bigbang, I had the unexpected privilege of making art for my good friend
rei_c's AMAZING AND GORGEOUS Sam/Dean fic,
The Vernacular Process. Seriously, go read it immediately--there's reincarnation, hoodoo, the Civil War, boys being complete idiots, and true love. What more do you ever need, I ask you. ♥♥♥♥♥
Header

This was the first thing I made for the fic and also the biggest. The plantation house is so, so important to the story and the characters that I felt like it needed to be central to the art as well, and one of the first images that came to mind when I was starting on the art was the Impala parked out in front. Many, many hours later (so much cloning, you guys don't even know), we ended up with this, in which the boys come home.
ETA (10:53 pm): I think I meant to say this earlier, but the house I used is the
Magnolia Plantation house in South Carolina. Gorgeous house, which I picked for the existence of its tower (which will make sense when you read the fic--Seeeeeaaaaaaannnnnnn, omg).

I usually like to do one big art piece in addition to the fic header, and since there's a scene in the fic where Sam finds Civil War-era photos of Sean and Daniel and their epic love, I took that and ran with it. This was my very first attempt at (non-crack) manips involving people, which may or may not have been a good decision. XD Still, I like how it came out!
Oh, and here's the base manip:
(Yes, I know there are still shadowing issues, but the more I played with it, the more Sean looked like an alien, so I decided to leave well enough alone. :\)
Soundtrack Covers and Divider
If you've read the fic, you'll probably understand why I kind of adore the symbolism of the tiny ship coming home to the tiny house. ♥ The divider was actually the second thing I finished, so when I was making the soundtrack covers, I wanted to tie it back to that. So now we have tiny Defiance (Daniel) and tiny Impala (Dean, of course). :P You can
download the soundtrack here!
The
paper textures (and all other ones used, I believe) are by
oxoniensis--thanks! Special thanks to everyone who looked at this ahead of time and gave me feedback, especially
clex_monkie89,
scorpiod1, and
cherie_morte, who put up with my manipping insanity (the sideburns, aaaaaaagh).
Thanks also to Rei, who was INCREDIBLY patient and supportive, participated in mutual handholding when we were both kind of freaking out, and of course, wrote the fic in the first place. ♥, dear! We did it!
