My dog is dying.

She hasn't been eating for the past few days, and what little food we could get her to eat, she's vomited back up. She doesn't want to go for walks. She's... just not there. And yesterday, she took herself outside and just lay down in the bushes and won't move. When pack animals are about to die, they take themselves off from the rest of the group and find an out-of-the-way spot. That's what she's doing.

I'm leaving for Wisconsin in about 2 hours, so the rest of my family is taking her in today to be euthanized. She's already gone... I think left to her body's own devices, she would die within 2 or 3 days anyway, possibly even today.

We've had her for 15 years. More than half my life. She's so beautiful - half beagle, quarter black lab, and quarter Gordon setter. She's the size of a large beagle, with a beautiful beagle face and ears, but she's all black, with tan and white points, and slight feathering on her tail and thighs. She was the most cheerful, playful, affectionate dog... so sweet and loving.

My heart is broken.
