Oh my goodness, someone kill me now! I'm at work and on my lunch break I stopped by Spotlight ... and bought a heap of stuff! And I'm not sure how I convinced myself to buy so many things! I bought a needle felting needle holder, needle felting applique mould, some merino wool rovings for needle felting (in black, cream, and brown), some pipe cleaners (or chenille sticks), and a couple of butterfly stickers, a quilling kit and quilling paper! Argh! ~ and how did all that come to almost $100?? At least there was a sale, imagine what would have happened if there wasn't -_-"
And surprising to know that I had actually gone in to try find small resealable bags for the phone charms to package them to sell them? Another horror, I cannot for the life of me find a place that sells bags small enough for them, I want a bag that is approximately the size of a business card, the idea being that I can put my business card into it, with a little notch in it to hold the charm into place. But the smallest bags I can find so far are ones that are the size of two business cards which are about 10cm X 12cm, while the ones I need are 10cm X 6cm *sigh*
The little mousie charm is completely dwarfed by the bag. Anyway, the things I bought, I have a reason for them! The needle felting tool I thought would help me felt, since I'm terrified at the thought of breaking a needle, and this seems to help lessen that, as it kinds of braces the needles more securely for stabbing, and the mould makes little roses, or so I hope it will help me do, and the merino rovings were in colours I didn't have yet, I just have the rainbow mix without any blacks, whites or browns. And the chenille sticks? They can be used to make needle felted figurines that can move, I saw that tip on a couple of sites, since you can needle felt onto the chenille sticks, and since it has a core of wire, it's bendable.
The butterfly stickers are for decoration, I actually should have bought a few more, since I'm going to use it to decorate the display stands and the pin board that I will be using to display things at Wai-con ... and I only bought one sheet of stickers - not enough! Gah! Granted I really should be getting watermelon stickers but I couldn't find any, and I doubt there would be any cubed watermelon ones.
And then there is quilling kit and quilling paper - that one I am a bit mystified as to why I got it, I mean it's a new crafting thing and I don't exactly have the time to learn another one, let alone fund another one, but it looked interesting. So to be lazy again, according to Wikipedia, quilling is:
"Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is glued at the tip and the coil shaped, these shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork."
And it looked pretty to me so I got a starter kit and supplies, it seems pretty easy to make and something I pull out easily at work and on a break or if I'm anywhere and do a bit of it. I actually have a few books on paper crafts, one for sewing with paper, and another for general crafts. I haven't used it yet, but maybe I will in the future if I have more time. But anyhow, quilling looks easy ... hopefully I won't have to eat my words later if it proves otherwise.
Anyway, I don't have that many craft books now that I think about it, and there's a few that I really want, a couple of needle felting books:
Needle Felt Small Accessories
My First Needle Felt Mascots
Needle Felt Sweet Animals
I mean I know they're in japanese, but the picture of the pages in it had pictures and diagrams that were pretty clear, and I won't need to read it, but if I do, I have a couple of friends who study japanese and may be able to help me out ^_^ There are no decent english books for needle felting, not for what I want to make anyway, there are ones for applique and decorating with needle felting, but not modelling things like these books. I despair at the failings of Australia sometime in the craft sense.
At least there are good books for cooking, I haven't mentioned it before but I adore making cupcakes and decorating them, and that was my huge creative hobby before all of this. I have at least two cupboards filled with decorating tools, cupcake tins, patty cases, sweets to decorate cupcakes, a cupcake carry case for transport, alot of various icing and ingredients, and I'm just starting to branch out into making cakes.
Also I think I might as well buy the bags online, it's not like the Wai-con is next week or anything, and they're just bags so waiting for them won't be as exciting as when I was waiting for the moulds, although I am still waiting for the cupcake package now, it's been over three weeks and no show! It's being delivered from Japan, but things I have ordered at the same time as it arrived last week! Should I be worried?
^_^
