Quite a few things have happened since the last post, and it's only been two weeks! They weren't kidding around when they called it a compressed unit, so much information! So little time to process! Anyway, as part of the unit, we had to paint something, that had symbols that represented 'Country', and it was pretty fun to do, and I ended up with this:
The symbols I used were the stars, and the lanterns floating on the river/ocean, and they just represent heart wishes, and the city skylines are pretty self-explanatory, one is Perth, and the other is meant to be Vietnam. And I used a sunset and nighttime background since those are my two favorite times of the day.
And this was just a collage we did before the painting - to help us figure out the colour scheme. I was also able to go to Supanova! For the first time ever, and oh my goodness - so big, and absolutely packed full of people! Of course, I bought quite a number of things! Although buying food there was a nightmare, talk about prices going through the roof -_-" Next time, packed lunches are the way to go.
The haul, I had a budget this time so I didn't spend AS much as I did at Wai-con - lol!
I ADORE the watermelon cube! I mean hello? Cubed watermelons!? It's so adorable, there was also a companion cube from Portal, but they were all sold out :( next time perhaps I will get one, or I may just make one myself! And there are some cute stickers - no idea where I will use them, but I'm sure I'll figure it out!
A maid headband with cat ears! They are pretty adorable - and my fiancé thinks they look pretty cute on me, lol, as if he could say otherwise! Wahahahaha! And badges, sooo many badges!
A more detailed picture of the badges, as you can see, they are adorable, and I plan to wear one every day! Woo! Makes me want to buy a badge making machine to make my own badges of awesome, since I have so many ideas!
A Fruits Basket Kyo key cap and a companion cube key cap, a cat apron for cooking! A DeathNote charm, a Cloud and Tifa flashing keychains, and a Rabbid figurine!
A Flash and Joker plushy, and a pile of manga! Yup, my buying need was sated by Supanova! There were some pretty awesome cosplayers, and it was fun - definitely going again next year! And so we come to the baked goods part, we had a baby shower for two people, and I made meringue kisses and cupcakes!
The meringue kisses were flavoured, I think there was chocolate, berry, pineapple, apple, vanilla and raspberry, and they were a good use for leftover icing from the cupcakes!
I got to try out making layered ruffles with the icing! It was actually easier to do then I thought, although finding out how to do it was a bit hard. I had previously seen beautiful pictures of ruffled cupcakes on blogs, and wanted so much to make it, but could not find out how! And then I stumbled onto this website :
http://video.about.com/kidsparties/Advanced-Cupcake-Decorations.htmAwesome site, it also included a video so I am now able to make it!
I used jaffas for decoration, I had wanted to use actual cherries, but did not have the time to buy any - I only had jaffas at home. Ah well. Still turned out looking pretty cute!
And I had also cut out a hole from the top of the cupcakes, stuffed the holes with peaches, and replaced the top I had cut out. Better than baking the peaches in, as baking shrinks the peaches unfortunately. Tastes better this way too.
Being able to make these after my performance that I had to do for my unit was such a huge stress relief, especially since I was pretty keyed up afterwards. But after making all the sweets, I was able to sleep! Lol. The sweets were a hit at the baby shower, and some people took the extras home for their family, which I was happy about, since I didn't want to bring the rest home - especially since today it has been raining non-stop!
Ah forgot to mention, the wonderful friend of mine who lent me her camera so I could take macro pictures of my charms, brought her son to the performance, and he is so sweet! She always talks about him, and it was great to meet him, and according to her, he really liked meeting me too! How nice of him! She took one of the cupcakes home for him, and hopefully he would enjoy the treat. I always think I am so lucky to be in this course, and meet so many wonderful people!
