Title: River Child
Characters: Prussia (Young), Holy Roman Empire (Younger)
Notes: The snake mentioned is the Midgard Serpent, also known as Loki's second child called Jormungand. He encircles the Earth within its oceans, awaiting the day of Ragnarok to force himself out of the water. Thor and the snake will kill each other, Thor with the snake's poison and Jormungand by Thor's blade. A friend did art for this, as seen
here.
The river was as deep as it was wide, and the boy figured it was at least a head over his own. Perfect. He went to the hand-made basket a couple feet away, the cloth peeking through the tiny holes between the ribbons of wood, and watched the baby sleep. He was peaceful and unknowing of his fate, to be cast away down the river an hopefully swallowed by that snake his father always talked about when they went fishing and he leaned over the boat to get a closer look at their food. The boy dragged the basket over to the river, leaving a shallow path of bended grass in his wake, and watched the river flow past. It wasn't a fast river, but it would do. Carefully, he pushed the basket into the river and watched it float down, rocking back and forth slowly like a boat, or like when his father would rock him to sleep...
A crash snapped him from his thoughts. The basket had snagged itself onto a rock and was threatening to flip itself over to release the small child into its arms of cold death. Suddenly very afraid, the boy trudged through the mud and water until he had to swim, carefully but steadily making his way to the other side. He pulled the baby from the basket just as it turned over and held him above his head, over the water that was pulling against him, calling him to play in her graveside of many. He went against it, and at last he laid exhausted on the shore, the baby curled up on his chest. The thing emitted a yawn, and stared at his big brother, sleeping and quiet, then gave him a peck on the cheek.
