Title: Hide 'n Seek! Two Sides to Every Story
Characters: Luke fon Fabre, Guy Cecil
Notes: A second side to the story of Hide and Seek, this one from Luke's view.

"Guy! Let's play!"

The servant didn't even look up from the small fontech clock he was fiddling with, but he knew he was bouncing on the balls of his feet.

"Did you finish your lessons, young Master?"

Luke stopped bouncing, rolling his eyes when he knew Guy was watching him. The lessons were stupid and boring and the teachers kept saying how he had to remember things he didn't care about.

"No, but who cares? Those lessons are boring."

His caretaker withheld an exasperated sigh and looked back down at the small piece of fontech.

"Then no. Finish them, and then I'll play with you."

Luke tilted his head at the response, frowning, and walked over to the other, pulling him impatiently.

"I can do them later! Come on Guy, please?"

The sigh was unmistakable and Luke grinned, knowing he had won. Guy hid a small smile with his stern response.

"Alright, but just for half an hour."

"Awesome! You're it!"

The young master ran out of the servant's quarters to find a good hiding spot, missing the words called after him.

"Remember, you can only hide inside!"

Luke knew that Guy would know where to look inside the house, so he went outside to find a spot. Where, where... There was a small thicket of woods his family owned, the boy remembered, and he set off in that direction. When he came to it, he tried to peek through the dense woods and decided it was the perfect place to hide. No one could see into it!

He walked through it, stepping over roots and shuffling through the scarce brush, and looked up at tall tree. Guy'd never find him here! He jumped up and grabbed the lowest branch, pulling himself up. How did Guy make it look so easy? He sat down on the highest branch his poor body could make it to, panting, and looked out at the world that was so unknown to him.

Wow.

“I can see my house from here!” He could see everything from here...

And then he looked down.

Luke clung to the tree, fighting off the rising urge to cry and failing as tears slid silently down his cheeks. He trembled and tried to look back up, away from the horrifying realization of how high he was. The sky was a pretty color, he thought to himself as his grip slackened around the tree’s mighty body. The clouds crossed it slowly, and Luke looked up to the center of the sky. It was a little darker than the rest, the glittering stones, called “fonstones” he remembered, winking down at him.

He felt himself falling.

He saw the blue of the sky, the green of the trees, and then blackness.

The sky had changed color, Luke realized as he awoke in the forest, the trees allowing only a small window for him to see it. It was a pretty orange now, almost the color of his hair. He tried to sit up and yelped, falling back onto the ground and holding his head. When he drew his hand away, he saw red. Pain shot up his right arm when he tried to move it. A sense of nausea and dizziness overwhelmed him and he curled up tight, squinting his eyes shut against the world. After a few minutes, he opened his eyes and looked around from his place on the ground. A question lingered in his mind, and he cried at the answer.

Had anyone come looking for me?

Luke was weary when he finally mustered the courage to stand, wincing at the pain of his throbbing head, and leaned against the tree he had fallen from. As he looked around, he didn’t know which way he had come from. It couldn’t be that hard to find it though, right? With that in mind, he pushed off the tree and stumbled to the next, dragging his feet and ignoring the pain in his arm and head.

It was a wall.

A large, tall, thick wall.

He groaned and slid down it, landing on his butt. His back had begun to ache as well, the pain of the fall finally getting through to him. The blood on his head was dried now, and Luke knew his mother would fuss over him and never let him outside if she saw him like this. He gathered what energy he had left and stood, using the wall as support before he trudged back the way he came.

“Little kids shouldn’t be alone out here.”

He jumped and looked around, trying to sound braver than he felt. Was it a monster? Or someone who wanted to hurt him?

“W-who’s there?”

The voice laughed at him and hopped out of the bush. The squirrel peered at him, before replying.

“Just me, a little animal.”

There was something wrong about this, but Luke couldn’t figure out why.

“Animals can’t talk though...”

“As far as you know.” It said with a laugh.

This thing was annoying. Luke frowned at the animal and sat down.

“How can you talk?”

“I don’t know, how can you?”

“I’m a human! Humans talk.”

“Then I’m a human too, cursed by the evil witch in the castle.”

“Natalia?”

“Yes.”

“I knew it!” Ha, he’d have to tell Guy this when he got back. “Hey, do you know how to get out of here?”

The squirrel was silent, cocking its head at the boy. Then, it run up one of the trees and out of sight.

“Great, I’m lost and I was just talking to a squirrel,” he groaned. That’s when it struck him.

He was lost.

It was getting dark. The shadows of the trees engulfed him, and he cried out in pain as he stood, exhausted by everything and the sudden hurt everywhere. There was a voice outside, and he strained to hear it.

“... come out now, your parents are very worried.”

Guy! Luke stumbled forward, a stick snapping beneath his foot as he struggled to get closer to the voice, and he felt himself falling forward. A new wound on his forehead, his face scratched up, and the voice gone. He’d only been imagining it. Luke let the tears come out, crying as the salty liquid mixed with the red blood trickling down his face.

“Master Luke, have you been here the entire time.”

The small boy stopped his crying and looked up, wiping away the tears as he nodded.

"Hey, it's alright now. You just have a few scratches is all, and now I've found you so you'll be fine," Guy told him, picking him up and blowing on the open wound softly. Luke swallowed a sob and tried to be stronger looking, like he hadn’t just spent who knows how long in a forest afraid for his life, and gave a hiccough in response. Stupid body, giving away his fear. He buried his face into the rough cloth of Guy’s shoulder with a whimper of pain, tears slipping out of his shut eyes.

Thank you, Guy, he thinks to himself. Before he can it out loud, maids swarm the two and fuss over him, Guy stumbling backwards and catching himself before he fell. Luke hugged on tighter and watched the maids with weary eyes, wanting them to leave so he could talk to his caretaker. They were saying something about Guy getting over his fear if he’d just go out with him, and Luke blocked out their annoying voices. Guy stuttered a reply, and they giggled, talking to themselves about the blond servant as they left. He gave a sigh and looked down at the redhead, smiling.

“Let’s go show your mother you’re alright, yeah? And then we’ll eat.”

Food did sound good, but he didn’t care at the moment. Luke gave a weary nod and laid his head back onto Guy’s shoulder, letting the warmth lull him to sleep.

No matter what Father said, Guy was more of family than he was a servant.
