I was outmanoeuvred and now I'm a team captain in the Global Corporate Challenge. 10,000 steps a day. I'm sure these pedometers are for tracking my movements. Ah well, s'all good.
Woodworking last night. It really tests my patience. I find a get really frustrated trying to find a tool that works and getting it sharp. I also don't like correcting my mistakes. But when I persevere, it's always a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. Getting the plane setup just right, puzzling out what I need do to get the wood flat, peeling off paper thin shavings, the slow rhythm of working the wood, measuring, adjusting, that grip the straight edge ruler makes against a completely flat piece of wood, the clunk of the square locking onto a square piece of wood.
It's slow process, to learn, to work the wood, but I'm learning more than just how to shave wood. I'm learning how overcome my impatience, my anger, my sorrow. I'm learning sensitivity, calmness, and the joy of creation. Life is good.
