Piano Trio

The most exciting bit of the day was the piano trio at the conservatory concert hall at the National University of Singapore. I read about the free concert in The Straits Times and said, "I'm gonna go." And so I did. duh...!

It was absolutely fabulous. I went thinking it was going to be a student's performance. It ended up being the teachers' performance. Thomas Hecht on the piano, Qian Zhou on the violin and Qin Li-Wei on the cello.

They played Trio No. 43 in C major, Hob, XV:27 by Haydn, Trio No.2 in E minor; Op. 67 by Shostakovich, and Trio in A minor by Ravel. For the encore, they played a classical piece by Beethoven.

It was spell binding to watch them play. So immersed in their music, their whole body movement expressing the dynamics of the piece bringing out the mood in the song. I like the cellist. His facial expression were kinda cute. haha. His eyes were always widening and he looked like he wanted to fly while sitting on the chair. The violinist was the same in the fact that she looked like she wanted to fly. You know, when you want to do a sfz on a note? She was like jumping up and down. Ok, I know if I write it this way the whole concert sounds funny, but if you're sitted there and watching them play, it's a whole different story.

The place was packed few with people q-ing outside with no place to sit. I'm glad I got there early. Now I know. If there is to be a performance, go there at least 30 mins earlier. Esp if it's free. Kiasu Singaporeans as usual.

I was sick actually. Headache and flu. The way back to home was terrible. I never want to go through that again. Seriously.

Should I have high dreams for myself? I can't imagine myself majoring in piano at NUS. It's like an unachievable dream. The standard is so high. Yet, it is my dream to get into NUS for a music degree...
