*tearing hear out*

My car is having problems again.  Today it had to be towed from Sanford to Saco.  I had to blow off my 3rd appt. of the day and tomorrow I'm probably going to have to cancel 3 appointments with families.   :(
Stupid car.

Mechanic thinks it's the alternator.  Hopefully that's quick and cheap.......*rolls eyes*

A used alternator put in by a friend or yourself is cheap.

A new one, installed by a garage, is over $200 sometimes.

Happened to me once, five years ago. Unpleasant.

How cheap would it be with a used one do you think?

I'm not exactly sure (depends on car), but it all really hinges on being able to FIND a used one (you've got to find a junk car with a working alternator of the same type as yours). My friends always got used ones because they had junk cars or knew people with junk yards. Some garages will offer to check junk yards for used parts for you, but they usually can't find anything unless you're lucky.

But, the good news is that the part lasts a while. I've had the same replacement alternator for five years, and it's still fine.

Good luck, though.

Thanks.
Actually, it turned out it was just a bad connection with my battery....so I don't need an alternator. Yay!
