This break has been kinda hectic. I dunno whether I feel like i got a break or not. The first two days I didn't relax. At all. And now my insomnia is ranked up to eleven.

But I guess it could be worse. Now I just have to make it through to the end of April.

Here's to me not ripping my face off in that time.

I'm not actually in a bad mood. I'm just pretty emotionally comatose right now due to pushing the limits of my sleep deprivation.

It rained today! i hope it starts thunderstorming soon. Last year there were very few storms.

So, like, my mom and dad both think I'd be much happier in a career in the sciences. I'm not very happy with Kendall right now. The people there are to wrapped up in their own shit that they can't even be open minded on what is or is not art. I thought it was just me but then I talked to my art history professor and she full heartily agreed. She said art historians have a very heavy duty of defining what is and what is not art and applying a name to it. She admitted that art historians are incredibly slow to the times, which is why Latin American art history isn't a very researched subject, art historians are JUST getting to those.

Hell, in an art history course, do you realize how little photography is covered? Not to even mention cartooning or anything like that.

It kinda helped me understand why I was so upset with my experience at Kendall. Even though the drawing and painting majors are such a miniscule percentage of the student body they practically command what is art. People don't respect the digital art or the installation pieces. They respect the painters and the 'true artists'. I don't know, its silly. There's such a stupid clique at Kendall that is just stupid.

But, ironically enough, the most obnoxious students are the photography and graphic design majors. Namely photography. You have not rolled your eyes until you've been the pretentiousness of a photography major. Now, that is not to say that all the photographers are like that, but quite a huge chunk are. They almost believe above everyone else because their equipment is so expensive. Hoo boy. Graphic design is interesting in that they spend hours ripping apart ads and then present with some of the shoddiest work I've seen.

Now, I know I am generalizing. I have NOT met everyone at Kendall.

That is not to say digital artists are not obnoxious in their own way, and I am no exception. There tends to be this kinda...obnoxious love for comics and games. They are fun and all, but don't hold people to this high pedestal. Namely don't hate someone for not giving half a rat's ass about Deadpool or Watchmen. Not to mention the complete disrespect of digital illustrators. The common sentiment is, "eh wtf why don't they just do normal illustration". But you are a GOLDEN GOD if you study 2D animation. None of this behaviour is what bothers me.

Its the 'indie' culture. Now I don't care what people listen to at long as they don't expect me to like it and as long as they don't play it so loudly that I have to listen to it. In Kendall you are not an 'artist' if you don't appreciate and possibly love the indie scene. Its an unspoken rule. And if you even so much as attempt to enjoy MAINSTREAM music well...god forbid. Its frustrating.

Actually, at Kendall, and possibly other art schools, you are not a true artist unless you listen to underground music that is much more 'real' than anything on the radio.

Yes, these are the people who hate indie artists who finally hit it big because they've "sold out".

I don't know. This underlying, frustrating snobbery of anything pop and mainstream and accepting new art forms like cartooning, anime, animation or what ever AS ART makes it really hard for me to appreciate my time at Kendall.

Admittedly the sculpture and functional art people are mostly pretty awesome. Mostly because its gotten to the point where pottery is ignored as an art.

In the end this was a very disjointed, unfinished rant written while I can't focus since I'm so tired but I still can't sleep.

I think I'll study meteorology.
