Suekozasa

"In 1927, Dr. Makino discovered this type of bamboo grass in Sendai City and sneakily named it after his late wife, Sueko, as a tribute to his everlasting love and gratitude for her."

Awwww, right? It's so sweet. Tomitaro Makino is often called "the father of modern Japanese botany" and was born in Sakawa. The musical this year is about him, however distantly. I never noticed this plaque outside the Board of Education even though I must've passed it a million times. But I saw it today when MAKINO in big letters lept out at me. Yay Makino. I wish someone would love me so much that they'd name grass after me.
