Ultimate Fusion: Star Wars and Japan
This is one of the more WTF items that I've bought in Japan:
If you're curious, the text simply says Mt. Fuji. Why R2D2 from a galaxy far, far away is flying over Mt. Fuji is anybody's guess.
Yep. That would be C3PO and R2D2 sharing a moment under the cherry blossoms. This one I bought for mitsukaiten as her Christmas present. She translated the poem on the side there, but all I can remember about it is that it has to do with small, obstinate, stubborn people moving straight forward... Or something like that.
Yes, I would certainly place these posters in the "wtf" category. I mean... just why? Why is R2D2 flying over Mt. Fuji? I mean, I know Star Wars has many Japanese influences, but, man. This is kind of taking it a little far, right?
Wait. Ok, yeah. It's just like Japan to do this. They take the cutest, most uncomplicated characters and use them as poster children to celebrate the "Japaneseness" of the movie which is not really about Japan at all.
