Remember that disappointing first installment of Deadline Games’ Watchmen beat ‘em up XBLA game, The End is Nigh? Well, the second installment isn’t here yet, but 1UP has confirmed in an interview with Deadline Games’ Søren Lund that both parts will become available at retail around the release of the film’s release on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 21. No price point was mentioned in the interview, but Warner Brothers is expected to have a press release with all the details coming today.

I know the game got pretty much all-around bad reviews, but I do hope the game is at least a mild success at retail. Why? For a gamer that lives in the basement of his cousin’s house, I find my wireless connection shoddy, at best. In a nutshell, it’s not trusty enough to download an XBLA game with any sort of consistency. I know that may shock many of you, but not all of us are willing to spend the cash to rework the network of a temporary living situation. As such, I personally would find it extremely helpful to have some of these games available in-store. It may not be cost effective for the publishers, but it would make me happy, and that’s all I care about.

Do I think that retail releases are the future for XBLA games? Absolutely not. Something like Watchmen can afford to do so because of its high profile nature. In the end, a shit game is still a shit game, whether you download it or not. We’ll keep you updated as the info comes.

xbox 360, news, xbla, xbox live arcade, the end is nigh
