This is Dr. Temperance Brennan. I have been speaking with your roommate, Feliks. He recently proposed that the three of us, and anyone else who would like to join in, should have a joust. I like this idea, but I do not know how to joust and have never ridden a horse. Therefore, I would like to accept your offer for horseback riding lessons, if you are willing.
Also if you don't mind, I would prefer to be called Tolys or Lithuania. Poland said that he might be the one who told you about me as Liet, but - it is a rather personal name and I would really like to be called something else, if you don't mind.
[Text] FYI She doesn't know about the whole "human personification of a country" thing... XDbone_geniusMay 1 2011, 04:47:13 UTC
My apologies. Feliks did not inform me about the name he was referring to you by. I will call you Tolys. I am not comfortable calling a person by the name of the country they are from.

I guessed so much, and hope you did not take offense. [He sees no reason to tell her about the "well, I am the country" thing right now, and since there are only a very few nations present right now, he sees no reason why he would have to.]
We could meet tomorrow then, around four in the afternoon, if that works with you? I hope you don't mind if Feliks comes along.

Oh, no offense taken. Tomorrow at four sounds great. I'll see you and Feliks then. Thank you.
...
[Brennan arrives at the stables promptly at four. She didn't know what to wear, and felt stupid in an English riding costume, so she's wearing her trademark skinny jeans, knee-high riding-type boots, and a violet and green plaid western shirt with chunky jeweled necklace and dangling earrings to match.
She smiles as she approaches Feliks and a reddish-brown (?!?) haired young man she could only assume is Tolys.]
Good day to you, Dr. Brennan. It's nice to meet you.
[The brunet, a rather tall boy of about 14 years, smiles, not leaving his partner's side. He has one saddled, not too large but very sturdy horse next to him, leading it on a long line, though most of this line is over his shoulder right now and he keeps the horse closeby.]
[He would be a lot less shy normally, only calm, but - not these days.]
Her name is Danute. She will help us to cover the basics - depending on how much you like it, you can ask a closet for a horse for yourself, if you want.
First of all, I'd like you to come over here and approach her slowly, and please talk to her. Not too loud, but loud enough to hear it. Something friendly. Also, please offer her a carrot - Poland will give it to you.
[Brennan tries not to roll her eyes at Tolys calling Feliks "Poland". It really is rude. She would not like being called "America" or "US".
But she shrugs it off and takes the carrot from Feliks. She turns and slowly makes her way toward the horse, carrot outstretched.]
H... hello, Dantue. I would like to ride you today, if that's okay. I, um, like your... mane. It's a nice color.
[She really does feel foolish speaking to a horse. The horse cannot understand her. But she realizes it's the tone of voice that is important. Though she has no idea what to say to a creature that can't understand you...]
[The horse looks alert when she comes closer at first, watching her with a bit too much attention to believe that she is confortable, but calms down a bit when the human talks. She huffs expectantly and extends her head a bit, bowing down to inspect the carrot.]

When would you be free for that?

Hello again Feliks. And you must be Tolys, hello.

Hey, Dr. Brennan! How's it going?

Nice to meet you, too.
[And then there's Feliks. She doesn't generally like teenagers, but she is quite fond of this one.]
I'm well. Excited for my lesson today. How are you?
[She gestures toward the horse.]
And who's this?

Liet, babe, I didn't exactly tell her we weren't human...
[Aaaaand back to the shared language!]
Here you go!
[Liet's trying to get interacting with people again, so he's just here to be his lovely assistant/emotional support, right now. Have a carrot!]

I hope this is to your approval, Danute. If it isn't, you should blame Feliks. He brought it.
