I dialled. I mostly expected Cordelia to pick up. I hoped she would, anyway - talking to girls was always easier than boys. Which was very immature, but true. Either way, we didn't have a book. A book we needed. And somehow I was appointed 'call L.A.' gal. Xander said he had to go to work (lame excuse), and Giles said he was terribly busy with the ( Read more... )

It was starting to annoy me. 'No Wesley, you can't come yet.' 'Please Wes, you're still healing.' Even Angel 'Wes? I think it's best if you stayed...y'know, behind.' I wasn't a bloody invalid! At least, not really. I had managed to get out of the wheelchair and alright I was still using the cane ( ... )

The phone was answered, and Wesley's kinda stammery answer was rattled down the phone line, ever cultured voice stumbling over words before smoothly introducing himself and asking if he could help me. I hesitated, I had been planning to go 'Cordelia!' despite the fact that I had no real knowledge that she'd be the one to actually pick up the phone. She seemed to suit the secretary mould better than Wesley Wyndam-Pryce.

"Wes!" I said. "What a surprise! I guess its not so big a surprise, 'cause you work there and all. Just that Cordelia seemed to be the type to be sitting at the desk and answering calls. Not that there's, like, anything wrong with that, or anything, because you're great to talk to."

Ahem.

"So, um, how's life at Angel Investigations?" I asked, grin evident in my voice as well as on my face. Catching up with old acquaintances was always of the fun, even if it was the Watcher we all knew and didn't quite love.

"Willow?" I blink at the telephone and blink stupidly as she rambles on about...I have no idea what she's rambling on about actually. Something about Cordelia? "I'm afraid Cordelia isn't here at the moment," I tell her softly. "She...out on a case with Angel and Gunn." Without me, because poor Wesley had to stay behind again.

I've always like Willow. She seemed friendly even after I had voted to sacrifice her to the major for the good of the rest of the town. I've always wondered if she knew. If she understood. Ah well, it's not something one can ask out of the blue.

"Life at Angel Investigations currently is very boring." Shifting on my feet, I put my free hand over the stitches of the bullet wound as the pull a bit. I reach behind me to drag the chair over with a little his. Finally managing I sit down with a relieved sigh. "There's a lot of paper work to do and I can't go along with the others yet on cases." Since they won't let me. "And how are you, Willow?"

"Paper work? Gee, that sounds tedious," I said, leaning back against the headboard of my bed, fiddling with the cord of the phone. "I'd get so bored after a while, though you can make fun things out of stationary. Like paperclips, you can make paperclip monsters." I decided to end that tangent right there before he really did start thinking I was a freak. I'm sure he had a bit of a hint, though I didn't want him to hang up on me.

"And how are you, Willow?"

"Me? I'm okay. College is just getting better and better as it goes, and so is my witchy stuff. Makes me feel like I can contribute a bit more to evil-fighting and all. Though it'd be nice if I got paid. Maybe I should switch to the L.A. gang," I added jokingly. "Need a witch on your side?"

I blink as she talks on some more about New York. It's not making any sense to me, but I'm sure it does to her. Politely I wait until she's done. "What? Wait, rocket launcher? Rifle? Errr..." I don't think it's very safe to take those into a large populated city. Or anywhere. The rocket launcher that is. "What do you need a rocket launcher for? Those are very dangerous." Not to mention hard to handle. She was making a joke hopefully ( ... )

I frowned a little. I did that when my jokes were missed. Maybe Wesley really was the Watcher he had been a couple of years back. But not entirely, if I was enjoying this conversation, letting it last as long as it was, even if it was supposed to be a quick request. Maybe it was a good thing Buffy had won paper-scissors-rock. Maybe I was getting way ahead of myself and the English politeness thing had been raised to new and interesting levels. I didn't dwell on that thought ( ... )

"Oh, she doesn't?" Hmm, I thought she did. Quickly I write down the address and start up the computer. Might as well put it in the address book right away. Sitting back in the chair I watch as the computer boots up, slowly. I really wish we could afford a better one. But on our budget that's not possible, we should probably be glad with the one we have ( ... )

"That sounds odd but strangely logical," I said. "Aside from the fact that you're not sure if you're looking for a first person under a first name, or a middle initial, or... or finacial status..." I grinned, it did kinda sound like something Cordelia would do, whether out of malice or out of carelessness. "I bet she did it deliberately just to annoy you guys," I teased lightly, "and watch on as you and the other boys have to paw through all the files to get the one you want. Makes her a very important member of the staff, then. or she really is a ditz at heart and at soul. Poor Cordy ( ... )
