1) My first Bollywood movie was Devdas with SRK and Aish. I was still very much caught up in western movies so thought that all shows would Spoilers for this movie end happy. Well for everyone who has seen this movie, we all know that a happy ending is not what this movie is all about. I had tears streaming donw my face by the end of it, when Paro is running through the house just trying to get to Dev-she is almost there-the gates slam shut-Paro sobs-Dev dies. Oh My Gosh That Did Not Just Happen! (Was my first response)End Spoilers I loved it. The drama. The costumes. The dancing. Wow! At this point I still had to get over the somewhat over-the-topness that Bollywood had for me, but I soon forgot about it and just enjoyed myself.

2) I found out about Bollywood by watching Bride & Prejudice. I found it at the local Blockbuster and it sounded interesting. Then the hospital I worked at had two Indian housekeepers who would clean my department at night. We had already started to be friends, so I asked if they knew anything about Bollywood. Boy, howdy did they! The next night one of them brought me Devdas and Tere Naam on video with somewhat bad english subtitles. I've never looked back since. The whole reason I started a netflix account was so I could get Bollywood.

3) When I re-watch Devdas I still get caught up in it all. The ending doesn't affect me as much, but I still really like it.

4) I loved Bollywood for everything that Western movies don't have (Well the movie Australia came darn close) the songs, the dancing, the costumes, the crying, the joy, the fights...all of it! For me it was what the hey-day of the big screen was in the 40's and 50's in America. I adore it!

5) All time fav actor is SRK. Why? He is amazing! He is a very good dancer, and that man can die like no other hero. I love him as the hero or the villain. He seems to just "go for it" and takes his roles seriously. Love him! As for actress that is a harder one for me. I really love so many of them but right now I would have to say Konkona Sen Sharma. I've loved all the movies she has been in. She really chooses good roles, and she seems to be a bit better grounded then some of the other starlets. Plus, she can act! She is not just a pretty face/body.

6) My top five movies are : Devdas, Jab We Met, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Jodhaa Akbar, and Don (These change all the time for me.)

7) Older movies vs. newer movies? Truthfully I find the older movies a bit hard to watch. I am trying to do better as I know there are some awesome ones out there. I think I just need to remember that the cheez (for me) is going to be high and just roll with it. I also don't want to limit myself to only newer movies. I'll run out of them soon if I do that. Hee. I've only tried a few, but I am going to start trying more.

I remember when I saw Devdas I cried when they closed the Gates on Paro. It was so heartbreaking and not many western movies can do that for me.

I agree. I think that is why I was so drawn to Bollywood. Emotions are high in their movies. They make me feel.

You know, I've never really thought about the intermission that way...but you are totally correct. It really does switch up the whole thing.

“You know that magic quality that Hollywood movies lost after the '50s? Yeah, so, apparently it’s been hiding out in India all this time.”

Love that statement.

Yes the ending of Devdas is perfectly executed. Emotions are over-flowing!
