Yep, after a slightly grueling pre-interview task and a phone interview with a dude named Derek, I have been accepted into a CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teaching for Adults) course in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Derek says they'll be sending me an acceptance letter soon (with a pre-course task; a more-in-depth version of the pre-interview task). What does this mean?
I need to drum up at least $3000 (I could make it on $400 less, but think a safety net is a good idea) for the course, travel (to Thailand and from Thailand to Taiwan), living expenses, ect.
Any ideas?
The plan is to do the CELTA course (a month-long intensive course) in Thailand, finish it and give myself a few days to recuperate before flying to Taiwan to teach English for a year. The chain schools give you an interest-free loan for living/setting up your apartment in Taiwan, so I should be covered on that front.
I would love to teach in Thailand for a year, but even if I worked my tush off the most money I could make would be worth $1000 a month before taxes, housing and living expenses. Luckily plane tickets between Thailand and Taiwan run less than $200 - I can take holidays there if I exhaust the travel possibilities within Taiwan.
By teaching in Taiwan I can a.) send home almost as much as I could in South Korea, b.) learn Mandarin Chinese, and c.) feed the travel bug that won't leave me alone. All good reasons, in my book.
