But still no pictures. I have to remember I need to update everything from the Lunar New Year Beijing trip onwards... including the multiple cherry/pear blossom viewing trips and hiking trips I've taken. I've seen quite a bit of Korea, but still haven't hit Seoul. Haven't heard much that recommended it, though...
Family
Bill sailed through his interview and is moving from Albuquerque to Denver. I don't know much more than that at this point, as I just had a quick conversation with mom today. She was so surprised to have me pick up that she didn't know what to say at first. That's probably a bad sign...
Friends
No real new news. Beth is leaving next week... I don't know if I got any pictures of her and her funky curly hair, but she reminds me of Denny in that she's just relaxing to hang out with. No stress, kind of seems a little stoned...
Writing
I've hit the 30k mark. And I'm still not nearly finished. Why can't I just write the smut I originally intended? Why must the plot get in the way? Why?
Life
I shall call last Saturday the Day of Tres Beaches - I retardedly got up on Saturday to make lanterns at a temple (the monks do community things every weekend, and at least once a month it's a Korean cultural thing for the foreigners) when said lantern making was actually taking place on Sunday.
So what do I do?
I go to Haeundae Beach for some well-deserved Mexican food (I needed a reward for waking up early, even if I failed to actually accomplish what I'd planned). I had a heavenly beef burrito, with genuine sour cream (not easy to come by in Korea!)... though he was out of guacamole. I need to take a picture of this closet that masquerades as a Mexican stand, because it's ridiculously small. You normally end up sitting on stools in the alley out front, and that's so narrow that whenever a car passes by you have to turn sideways or kiss your kneecaps goodbye.
I ended up puttering around Haeundae, enjoying the pretty day, then got a text message off Rebecca, who invited me to Dadaepo beach. She said it was off the beaten track, and after an hour on the subway and a 15 min cab ride I had to agree with her. I ended up beaching it with a cool girl named Elle whose birthday it turned out to be, had dinner with them, went back to her place with everyone, got drunk there on noxious Thai liquer, went barring/clubbing (= Clarring? Blubbing?) and ended up at another beach party - this one came with a bonfire. That was fantastic news as I was freezing my hoohaas off. I ended up hugging the fire all night (a cruel, smoky lover) and meeting oodles of people and talking to oodles of smexxy accents. Even got hit on - and I mean SERIOUSLY hit on - by a New Zealander named Russ. Unfortunately that was the very end of the night, just before I left with Shanna, Rebecca and Elle's friend. We live all the way across the city, and as such apparently repelled taxi drivers. We went through two getting home. (shift change, nuff said). Ended up getting home at 5 in the morn.
I never did get to make lanterns...
Entertainment
Currently reading City of Bones and City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. Fun reads. If you like Joss Whedon-esque verbal sparring and urban fantasy they're worth a read. Not quite as addictive as Kim Harrison's Dead Witch series but still mucho fun. :D
Dr. Who's fun, Torchwood is getting better - the writing is a bit more sophisticated, the verbal repartee a bit smoother. The Sarah Connor Chronicles have been greenlighted for another season, which is a big hooray... there's a part of the season finale that I kept watching over and over because it was just so fun to watch. I should probably be worried about the fact that I find a terminator taking out a squad of FBI agents 'fun to watch', but I'm not. That in itself might be something to worry about...
Battlestar Galactica is keeping me on my toes. It's such a well done show, and I never quite know where it'll go. I'm a bit sad it's the final season, but glad that it will end in glory instead of petering out. What was that line from Highlander? Something about burning hard and fast besting the slow fade away.
The Daily Show and Colbert Report keep me entertained and in-the-know.
And OHHHHH lordy, the Ironman trailer is making me mucho happy. May it live up to its hype. Amen.
