I just had the best two weekends of my entire life.
Seriously.
First, I got to go to see Becca and Dave in California. I got a tour of Becca's work (sweet! And inspiring) and spent the day in the beach town around there. We had Teppan Grill goodness for lunch, and I was really happy that even after a year we can just hang out (I'm with Becca there... I think that's rare.) That night we headed out for Las Vegas (Vivaaaaa~ Las Vegas) for Dave's Beta Con for Vanguard. The next day I got to meet a lot of cool people (Ben was cool), both employees of Dave's company (meeting them gave me more hope for my future. Heee) and the fans. They're a very spirited group. We hit up the Hilton's Quark's Bar for lunch, then met up with everyone for drinking and gaming at Gameworks, where I got to see some very happy fans win Beta spots and computer goodies. I also got to team up with a random company employee (All I know is that his name started with a Z) to play an addictive police shooter training game that Dave and Becca had been playing. It nearly kicked out collective ass. =D
The next day Becca and Dave were awesome enough to let me invite my friend Lorna from middle school (who's mother, freakishly enough, I had met up with randomly the day before I left Albuquerque) to lunch at the Luxor, where we managed to catch a "4-D" picture before heading out to the Tournament of Kings at the Excalibur. We need to go back to Vegas. XD
Oh, oh, and I fear that we might have frightened the people in the car behind us in the stop and go traffic on the way back to California. Shadow puppets were never so much fun.
Second, I got to go to Chicago for a con this last weekend. Again, I found out how not-as-hard-as-I-thought it is to make money with art. I just wish I'd had some prints or something to sell, but who knew I'd end up with a free table?
I got more feedback with my stickmen and 'lifelike portraits' than I would have with oodles of pretty art. Mara tells me that I got a lot of ooglers (girls, mostly) because my style is pretty. That makes me happy. =D
I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THE TRAINS. I love taking trains in cities. Seriously.
We took the Blue line in from the con to downtown Chicago for some real Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza. The New Yorkers (John's crew) and Chicagoans (Mara's group) were very cool. I <3 Ellen for the commission she gave me. =D
All in all, Very Cool. Even though I returned from my crazy-cool-inspiring weekends to the norm here (doing a lot of nursing duty) I'm still in a great mood.
Thank you Becca, Dave, Mara, John. <3
