Chapter 13
With a content sigh, Jaejoong tilts his head slightly resting it on Yunho’s shoulder.
The two of them just finished watching a movie together because Jaejoong didn’t feel like sleeping yet after the dinner and shower. Yunho decided to accompany him until Jaejoong sleeps before heading back home.
“Are you sleepy yet?” Yunho brushes back Jaejoong’s bangs.
Jaejoong shakes his head.
“What do you want to do now?” Yunho asks caringly.
“Um…” Jaejoong closes his eyes slowly.
Yunho smiles at Jaejoong’s childish antics. By the looks of it he is already half asleep.
“Do you want me to read you another bedtime story?” Yunho gets ready to move from his spot but is stopped from when Jaejoong grabs his hand.
“No bedtime story?” Yunho asks hesitantly.
“Um…” Jaejoong rests his head on Yunho’s shoulders again as soon as Yunho settles back into his previous place.
They sat in a comfortable silence with their hands linked until Jaejoong calls out for him in a hushed whisper, “Yunho-ah…”
“Yea?” Yunho pats Jaejoong’s head softly.
“You are the first that has ever asked me what I wanted…” Jaejoong says in a soft tone.
Yunho was puzzled by Jaejoong’s statement. He clearly remembers Heechul’s vehement words of Jaejoong getting everything, even the things Heechul worked hard to get. So what could Jaejoong possibly mean by that?
“…Everyone always gives me what they think would be best for me… But no one has ever asked me whether I wanted it or not…” Jaejoong continues, his voice trailing off on a sad note.
Yunho gave Jaejoong’s hand a slight squeeze. “Isn’t it nice to be spoiled?”
Jaejoong shakes his head furiously, “No… Not when I don’t want any of it.” His heated voice is completely rid of any sign of sleepiness. “The love and care is wonderful… But sometimes it’s a little too much. When they set up these opportunities for me that they think I would love, I have no choice but to accept. I don’t want to disappoint them. Or waste any of their efforts. It’s impossible to turn down offers… But sometimes I really wish I could say no. Maybe then things would be different now…”
As his words slowly sink in, Yunho realized there’s more to this angel than he thought. Even though his life seems perfect with loving parents and friends who are willing to make his life absolutely perfect, it turned out to be overwhelming instead.
“I didn’t want to study abroad… I never did. I didn’t want to leave my family to go to a foreign country all by myself, even if it was an amazing opportunity. If it wasn’t for Yoochun…”
‘Yoochun again. He must be very important to Jaejoong.’ Yunho thought bitterly to himself, accidentally tuning out on what Jaejoong’s saying. When he finally riles in his attention again Jaejoong’s eyes were fluttering close.
“It was Heechul hyung that wanted to go… I didn’t want to take away his chance... I don’t want hyung to hate me…” With those words uttered, Jaejoong finally slips into dreamland with a single tear sliding down his pale cheeks.
Yunho carefully tucks Jaejoong into bed, making sure the comforter snuggly fits around the fragile body. He wipes away the tear with his thumb and lands a soft kiss on Jaejoong’s forehead.
That single tear has touched Yunho’s heart deeper than he thought it would. He now knows of the torture Jaejoong has gone through. He really was a pure angel who only tried to make everyone around him happy. Even with Heechul, his brother that has done nothing but hate him, yet Jaejoong always considered his feelings above his own. Yunho despised himself for ever thinking ill of this angel, but he hopes he will have the rest of his life to make his angel happy doing what he wants. With that determined, he then settles beside his love watching his calm breathing which soon lulls him to sleep as well.
“I must go check on Jaejoong now.” Yoochun glances at the clock that stroke 12:00.
Junsu is puzzled by that statement. “It’s late. I thought you would be staying over.” He really thought so, especially with all the fun they had catching up with each other that night, he thought for sure Yoochun wanted to spend the night.
“I can’t do that. Jaejoong is still sick.” Yoochun quickly makes his way out the door.
“He is probably sleeping already, why don’t you go tomorrow?” Hearing no answer, Junsu rushes after him, “Wait! I’ll come with you!”
The whole ride there was silent. Yoochun was way too concerned about Jaejoong’s wellbeing to keep a conversation going. Junsu sensed it too. He couldn’t help but be jealous, because the only times he saw the happy glint in Yoochun’s eyes tonight was when he was recalling the times he had alone together with Jaejoong when they were abroad. Junsu knew Yoochun cared deeply for Jaejoong, but he always thought it’s because they were best friends. But now… he couldn’t be so sure.
Right when they reach Jaejoong’s house, Yoochun hurriedly turns off the engine and runs into the mansion with the extra set of keys the Kim family gave him, never once checking if Junsu was behind him.
Inside the mansion is pitch black, but Yoochun could find his way around even if he was blind for that moment for he has been here so many times already. It didn’t take him long to bust through the door of Jaejoong’s room only to find Jaejoong cuddling with… Yunho?
Yoochun also couldn’t help but notice the content smile on both of faces. He felt his world crash down around him. Jaejoong always refused to let him sleep in the same bed whenever he is sick, telling Yoochun that he would get sick as well. No matter how hard Yoochun had tried to convince Jaejoong that he didn’t care to get sick with him, as long as it’s with him, but it was no use. So why is he cuddling in bed with Yunho?
“Yoochun? Where are you?” Junsu’s voice is just around the corner.
Not wanting to wake up the two sleeping, Yoochun quietly closed Jaejoong’s bedroom door behind him and dragged Junsu out of the mansion with a simple explaination, “He is asleep, we can come back tomorrow.”
Yunho wakes up the next day by the loud thunder and the heavy rainfall. Yet he felt surprisingly warm. That was when he notices Jaejoong’s arms wrapped around him seeking for warmth. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to be in this position, where he could have only dreamed of being.
After a few minutes watching the beauty still sleeping soundly, Yunho felt the angel shiver. He quickly pulled him closer as to give off more body heat, and pulled the cover tighter around Jaejoong.
“Mhmm…” Jaejoong lets out a soft content moan and buries his head deeper into Yunho’s chest.
Yunho carefully touches Jaejoong’s forehead, relieved that his fever seemed to have gone down. However, for Jaejoong to completely recover, Yunho had to wake him up soon to take his medicine.
“Jaejoong...” Yunho called out hesitantly, not entirely wanting to wake up the sleeping beauty.
Jaejoong didn’t stir.
Yunho decided to try again but louder this time. “Jaejoongie.”
“Yunnie-yah…” Jaejoong mumbled in his sleep.
‘Yunnie?’ Yunho thought. ‘Who is that? Could it be… me? Could Jaejoong be dreaming of me?’
After pondering over the possibilities for a few seconds a goofy smile spread across Yunho’s face. But he decided to push that thought aside and concentrate on helping Jaejoong recover.
“Jaejoong, wake up… You need to take your medicine.” Yunho carefully shakes Jaejoong.
“No Chunnie, five more minutes.” Jaejoong grumbles and turns away out of Yunho’s embrace.
With that, Yunho spirit that was brought to the heavens a moment ago now sinks so quickly. He hopes that himself that one day in the future, he would be the only person Jaejoong calls in his sleep.
