Chapter 7
Sitting along by himself, just outside of heechul’s room, Jaejoong couldn’t make out exactly what they were saying. However, it’s not hard for him to make out Heechul’s angry shouts even if he was miles away.
Through all the shouting, Jaejoong was sure things wasn’t going well inside, and couldn’t help but wonder if he was the cause of the argument, since it seemed to him that every time his hyung gets mad he is somehow linked as a cause.
When the door opens to reveal a absentminded Yunho, Jaejoong immediately concludes that the argument did not end well. One thing for sure, they are not end up making up and cuddling after their fight.
“Yunho.” Jaejoong calls out softly, but it was enough to grab the other’s attention as he stopped in his track turning to the soft silky voice.
“Jaejoong-ah!” Yunho calls out in surprise. “You are still here?”
Yunho wants to hit himself for asking the obvious. Of course Jaejoong was still there, if not he wouldn’t be in front of him calling his name right?
Jaejoong nods with a sweet shy yet caring smile.
The two of them stands like that for a couple of minutes, with Jaejoong thinking whether to ask what happened or not and Yunho wondering how to become closer to Jaejoong.
“Yunho, Are you okay? Did something happen? Did you guys have a fight? Was it something that I did that caused Heechul to be angry at you?” Jaejoong lets out a string of questions as he is not sure of where to begin.
Yunho saw the curiosity in Jaejoong’s eyes, and understood he must have heard them arguing and somehow attributed the blame onto himself.
“Is my fault isn’t it?” A frown and a pout simultaneously settle on Jaejoong’s face, “Maybe I should go talk to him-”
Yunho quickly grabs Jaejoong’s hand that’s already reaching for the doorknob. “Don’t. He’s not in the best mood. It’s best to leave him be for the moment.”
“But I don’t want hyung to be mad, I-”
“Jaejoong.” Yunho brings his other hand to cup Jaejoong’s face, gently bringing Jaejoong’s focus to him; he couldn’t help but slowly caressing Jaejoong’s soft skin as the latter looks deep into his eyes.
“Yunho… I…” Jaejoong didn’t know why, but he couldn’t formulate a coherent sentence with Yunho so close to him.
Yunho smiles when sees Jaejoong’s cheeks are tinted red.
“I haven’t had breakfast yet, care to join me?” Yunho offers.
“I-” Jaejoong is hesitant but his stomach decides for him as it lets out a soft growl making Jaejoong hurriedly covers his stomach in embarrassment.
“You haven’t eaten yet either?” Yunho asks.
Jaejoong shakes his head. “I was going to go home and eat after I make sure Heechul hyung had his breakfast.” He lowers his gaze to the floor.
Yunho is touched by how thoughtful Jaejoong was. He couldn’t believe he had ever doubted this angel in front of him. He feels guilty for times he had even considered Heechul’s harsh words to be true.
“Come on, let’s go get something together, and we could get to know each other better.” Yunho extends his offer.
Jaejoong nods and walks with Yunho to the restaurant near the hospital.
It didn’t take long for them to order and find a table by the big windows facing the busy streets.
The two of them sat across from each other, happily indulging in their light breakfast.
“Yunho-” Jaejoong suddenly realizes something, “Wait, you are Heechul hyung’s friend, so you are probably his age. I should be calling you Yunho-shi or Yunho hyung!”
Yunho looks at Jaejoong incredulously, wondering why he would be mentioning this.
“I’m so sorry for being so impolite. I guess I have been in America too long, completely forgetting my manners.” Jaejoong lets out a soft chuckle while bring up a hand to cover his laugh. “We usually just call people similar age by name without any additional titles. After getting use to that, it’s hard to change the habit again. So what should I call you? Any preferences?”
Yunho found it adorable the way the way Jaejoong covers up his smile. He couldn’t stop himself from staring.
“Yunho-hyung... Yunho-shi!” Seeing no response from the other, Jaejoong waves his hand to catch his attention and shouts, “YUNHO!”
Startled by the sudden shout, Yunho snaps out of his trance and answers, “Just Yunho is fine.”
“What’s wrong?” Jaejoong asks with worry. “Are you still upset over the fight?”
“Eh? Oh the fight… No. Don’t worry about it. It’s nothing.” Yunho hurriedly explains.
“Are you sure? Did you guys fight because of me?”
Seeing Jaejoong this worried, Yunho immediately replies, “No, Jaejoong, it doesn’t have anything to do with you.”
Even though their fight had everything to do with Jaejoong, however, Yunho couldn’t help but lie to prevent Jaejoong from blaming himself when he had done nothing wrong.
But he answered too quickly, and Jaejoong caught it. “… It has to do with me doesn’t it… I’m sorry…” Jaejoong puts his head down and mumbles, “I don’t know what I did wrong, but somehow I always end up making hyung sad…”
Jaejoong folds his arms across the table and lays his head on his arms while casting his glance to the busy city life on the other side of the window.
From that simple gesture and by looking into Jaejoong’s big doe eyes, Yunho could see how lost Jaejoong feels. After all, throughout all of these years, Jaejoong has been treating Heechul like his real brother instead of mere step-brother. He has cared for the Heechul, and wants nothing more than having a big brother that would love and care for him like his parents. But it seems that no matter what he does, even if he tries his hard to please Heechul, it seems that everything he does have the opposite effect as he end up enraging the his hyung instead.
“I feel like I’m ruining hyung’s life… Maybe he would be lots happier if I wasn’t born.” Jaejoong lets out a soft sigh. “I’ve seen pictures of him in an old album. They were taken before I was born. He looked so happy with umma and appa…” Jaejoong’s voice cracks a little, “I can’t help but feel that hyung hates me… It’s my existence that makes him angry…”
It hurts Yunho to see Jaejoong so hurt. He reaches out and takes one of Jaejoong’s hands in his, causing jaejoong to look into his eyes. “Jaejoong-ah, don’t say that. I’m sure there’s a misunderstanding… He doesn’t have a good reason to hate such a loving brother like you.”
Jaejoong looks at his hand that’s still in Yunho’s and slowly shakes his head, “Hyung’s never happy when I’m around… Maybe I should have stayed in America so he could be happy again.”
“I’m glad you came back. If not, we wouldn’t have gotten the chance to meet.” Yunho tightens his grip on Jaejoong’s hands. “I’m sure Heechul will find happiness soon, the happiness that neither you nor I could give him.”
“Did you guys break up?” Jaejoong panics, “I’m so sorry if it was because something I said or done that cause it! Maybe I can talk to hyung, and you guys can make up and get together again!”
Yunho lets out a small chuckle at Jaejoong’s reaction, “No Jaejoong, it’s about time we broke up. We didn’t love each other like a couple should.”
“But you said you found your love…”
“It’s not him.” Yunho simply states while looking deep into Jaejoong’s shinning doe eyes.
Not wanting Jaejoong to feel uncomfortable with his confession, since they have only official meet just a day ago, Yunho quickly changes the topic. “Are you done with breakfast?”
“Oh no! I better head home! My parents should be waking up soon! And they don’t know I’m out yet!” Jaejoong panics for the second time that day, and hurries out the restaurant with Yunho trailing after him.
“Jaejoong, you could call your parents and let them know!” Yunho suggests as he smiles at Jaejoong’s panicking form again.
“Oh right!” Jaejoong hastily takes his cellphone from his pocket, but with that split second of looking down he bumps into someone and drops his phone.
Yunho picks up Jaejoong’s phone for him as the other person picks up his dropped luggage.
“I’m sorry!” Jaejoong repeatedly bows and apologizes. “I’m so sorry.”
After picking up his luggage, the other person is stunned to see who he is facing, “JAEJOONG!”
Hearing someone shouting his name, Jaejoong head immediately snaps to face that person. “YOOCHUN!” Jaejoong jumps into the shocked man’s arms.
Yunho stands aside with jealousy blooming in his chest.
The soulmates slowly loosen their hug after a few minutes.
“Chunnie! What are you doing here?” Jaejoong is shocked to see his friend that has arrived two days before scheduled.
“Jae!”Yoochun holds Jaejoong by his shoulders while looking at him up and down with a worried face. “You are really at the hospital! Are you okay? Where are you hurt?”
“Slow down Chunnie, I’m perfectly fine! I was here to visit Heechul hyung.” Jaejoong explains.
Yoochun didn’t believe it and examines Jaejoong once again, “Are you sure? You better not be lying to me. I knew I should have made you stay and come back with me, and then you wouldn’t have gotten hurt.”
“Chunnie!” Jajeoong whines, “I’m perfectly fine! Besides, what exactly are you doing here? You are two days early!”
Yoochun didn’t realize Jaejoong was changing the topic and answers, “I came back early to give you a surprise. But when I called your house, the maid picked up said you weren’t home. Then I called Junsu to ask for your location, he said you went to the hospital! I was too shocked to hear what he said after that, but I did hear Junsu say there was an accident the day you go back! I’m so worried Jae! I came straight here! That’s why I still have all of my stuff with me” Yoochun points to his luggage.
Jaejoong is touched at how worried Yoochun was, but he couldn’t contain his chuckles seeing his exaggerated expressions. “Chunnie, I’m perfectly fine! Heechul hyung was the one that was got injured, I’m here to see him.”
Finally Yoochun lets out a relieved breathe that he didn’t even know he was holding, “Thank God you are okay. I don’t know what I would have done if you were hurt.” Yoochun brings Jaejoong into his embrace again completely ignoring a jealous Yunho literally fuming on the side.
Sensing that the two soulmates need to catch up with each other, Yunho quietly leaves the scene before his jealousy could cause him to do something uncalled for.
“Joongie-ah, I want to always be here to protect you from harm.” Yoochun whispers the sweet confession, hoping Jaejoong would understand the love he feels for him..
“I know, Chunnie, you are always here for me.” Jaejoong replies completely oblivious to the fact that his soulmate just declared his love.
Both of them are unaware of Yunho’s departure as they remain caught up in this moment.
