5 years of waiting and finally the moment day was here! I felt so anxious/excited as I waited for The National to finish and The Strokes to start.
We were a little wary of going too far into the crowd in the center so Kay and I stayed way over to the side, on Albert's side and near one of the side screens but quite near the front. Being vertically challenged it was almost impossible to see the stage but that was fine. I could quite easily see the screen and in all honesty as soon as the songs start I get so lost in singing along and bouncing about/dancing that for the majority of the time I was forgetting to look anyway. When it comes down to it as long as I can hear them that is all that really matters.
I remember turning around to Kay when a certain piece of music came on and saying 'Oh my God! That's it! They come on stage to this music!' and so the set began!
Is This It was the opener which was no real surprise for me and I think it really is perfect to open with.
"Good morning," Don't ask me why but I always find it oddly endearing when Julian says something like that at night. There was a reasonable amount of Julian banter actually. Some of it I couldn't catch because it was quite noisy around me and also it was really windy! Oh yeah and of course Julian is a mumbler!
At one point he commented on the sky and I looked up and it was this absolutely perfect, gorgeous coloured sky! So damn perfect!
He called Under Cover of Darkness: "U-Cod" which amused me and also, "Let's Machu to the Picchu..." Heh.
A really funny moment was at the beginning of Under Control. (I announced to Kay that I was about to cry) It went something roughly like this:
*Julian starts to sing the opening lines* He pauses I think or does something that makes the rest of the band stop playing.
"Oh you didn't need to stop! I just sound nasal (or something along those lines!)" *Julian pretends to peg his nose and sing an ultra nasal version of the first two lines of Under Control!* Oh and mentioned something about needing to blow his nose but not wanting to do it now because that would be 'disgusting, weird' or something like that.
*Nick starts to play something random whilst Julian starts to do Under Control properly again and just cracks up!* (His smile/laugh was too damn adorable!)
Third time lucky and oh...Under Control, why are you so damn perfect??
12:51! That song was not appreciated enough in the part of the crowd I was in.
God. I don't really know what to say other than at the end of every song I thought 'Damn I fucking love this song!'
There was just so much singing along to guitar parts and guitar solo's it was wonderful :D
I have to add...I swear Nick has a Time Machine. That new hair cut...Hell. The man is a time travelling rock God when he plays. He would have had a tough time with the long locks with it being so windy.
Totally have to fan girl...Julian you beautiful creature, hair blowing in the wind and just beaming. My heart. <3333.
Oh and there was Pulp love too. "They're great...We like." Or something like that. JC for understatment of the year!
The Strokes Live = AMAZING. <3
leeds fest,
