A new song that I have been working on the last couple days or so...
"Lost Boy"
Once upon a time
Before the sun set on our youth
Before sex and cigarettes
Drugs and the nightly news
We didn't dream of stock tickers
Or corporate CEO's
We always had a bed time
And we drank straight from the hose.
Before we traded in our PJ's
For a pinstripe suit and tie
We always knew the sky was blue
But constantly asked why.
Now we walk down city blocks
But we don't avoid the cracks
Put our own food on our tables
And new clothes on our backs.
Our lives go in our cellphones
And we keep them safe away
We synch them with our laptops
Or brand new PDA's
So I guess we all fall victim
To this information age
A group of has been actors
Getting fruit thrown on the stage.
But when the morning wakes it's mistress up
We've all been turned to ash
And the truth about our yesteryears:
They're never coming back.
The shit we read lacks pictures
If it has any at all.
It rants about our war
And how we've really dropped the ball.
But the ball is not the only thing
That we as one have dropped
So I ask you all to rise up
Till all this shit has stopped
We need that vicious vigor
That we possessed in our youth
Make a lot of noise
Until we get the goddamn truth
But when the nighttime finally gives us up
We've all been turned to stone.
And there's no one there to take our hands
We're all in this alone.
And the bride cries on her wedding day
The groom dressed up in black
Yeah theirs a truth behind our yesterdays
They're never coming back.
Well I wish I were a Lost Boy
But now I drink my coffee black
With a double shot of whiskey
Poured from a silver pocket flask.
Keep my head stuck in a notebook
Where I scratch at a yellowed page.
Fill it with pretentious thoughts
On apathetic days.
That add up to a calendar
Of greed guilt and shame
Where I sing my songs for faces
But never for their names
And I scream
At a God that doesn't hear me
To wrapped up in his worship
To know he don't exist.
And I cry
How we buy into this bullshit
And play pretend a promised land
But perhaps the end is simply just the end.
