Lost in Hongkers part II

Dec 23, 2007 14:21

For lack of planning and decisive action misty and I travelled to hongkers with Dondon an Popo instead of travelling to boroccay with the full crew (serves us right for months of indecision).

Shopping was on the menu for two of our three days with pre xmas sales already in full swing and shops open til 11pm each night. We shopped high and low for the best deals and did manage to find a couple of things for the santa sack. We also ate ourselves silly and I experienced my first authentic HK breakfast in a HK diner in HK - macaroni and chicken soup with a side corn salad, piece of buttered bread and fried egg.

To ensure we did do something new for the occassion we took a day trip to Macau to see what the buzz is about. A 60 minute boat ride got us to this 'special admin region' of China. Much like Vegas, the town is not much to look at by day, and our first stop of the Venetian did not look so appealing by light. Needing to do something cultural we also took in the wall of St Paul - the only part of the church that did not burn burn, as well as the Macau Fortress and ate a portugese tart. Coincidentally it was also the opening of the MGM casino and I made a token donation to the establishment to show my support for developing this fledgingly region of only 500,000 people. We finished the day with traditional chinese/portugese food.

While it was tempting to conquor the last disney outpost the prospect of waiting for its' additional park to open outweighed the immediate need to see Mickey again so soon.
