Concerning the big blue U

Aug 18, 2007 10:13

My new boss has been in place for 7 months now. I am not impressed. I am not amused. The idea of a boss is to give you (the employee) direction, guidance, and hopefully inspiration.

My boss does not do this as much as I would like. For the first three months I gave boss the benefit of the doubt, but it certainly feels that I do more than boss (in actuality this is true as we have divided the region and I have more countries to look after AND I have already transitioned three), respond more quickly to needs and have a greater knowledge of what we are doing.

Boss does want to help me develop. Boss does care.

I have been in my current role for almost two years now and the main challenges have been faced. The hardest part has been seen through. The thrill and excitement is not as it was. I think it is time to move on to a new role. Big blue U, it is time to deliver me my next role. It is time to transform and roll on.

Options are many and varied. The company is keen to see me continue with them and I am keen to stay with the organisation. At the moment it is all about finding a match of the role and my desires.

The wants of this highly skilled and experienced employee are:
- English speaking country (preference for SG, ANZ, UK, US)
- Some travel, although would question how often and for how long I would be out of town
- A promotion, although a sideways move would not be turned away
- Preferably a one year commitment, open to two
- Team I will learn from and that are experienced

Some things that have been discussed but so far passed on are Dubai, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and an OD role in the UK. Some to be discussed are a role in Audit and some regional roles in SG.

Let us see what can be agreed. The target is certainly to be in place by the new year. Anything earlier will be a bonus.
