Got the opportunity to clear my head of a bunch of work stuff this morning, and then take a proper walk around shibuya.
The weather was sunny, though still windy and cold. Much more conducive to being out and about rather than a hotel room. It was wonderful to realise that Shibuya had more going for it than I first thought. It really is a rabbit warren in amongst the main buildings, and just going with the flow revealed many sights and shops that would have been missed otherwise. It became clear that this part of Tokyo really is a chix town, with a ridiculous number of shops providing female clothing in all manners of style. Misty and many others I know would of spent hours just in one block of shops as the offerings for a woman just went on and on and on and on and on.
Two hours later, some realisations:
- Almost all Jap women wear heels, are pigeon toed and have bad teeth. Also realised that they are all fashion victims. It seems FMBs with similar lengthed socks, is the thing to be wearing this season, as I think every female in Japan is in this mold.
- Half of Jap men are quite awkward, fitting the stereotypical Japanese nerd. The other half of Jap men are very metro, with big hair and a fashion sense for the next generation. Strangely, many of them are also ridiculously tanned. Not sure if it is from the snow (less likely) or the tanning salon (very likely, as they all had a tinge of orange).
Returning to the hotel, I flicked on the tube and gravitated to a Rugby Union match. It was the local J League, somewhat comparable to the local club comp in Oz. Strangely I had a great sense of what the commentators were saying as the match went on. Although in Japanese, you could hear the expression in their voices as various moves were played by the two teams. Made me contemplate how sport and music really are global phenomena.
Oh well, back to work and Sapporo.
