Into the void

Many are familiar with the slightly unusual dreams I have(though I can safely say we all probably have strange dreams). I present this dream to you.

The rocking of the train startled him. He did not know how long he had been sleeping. What was clear, was that he did not remember boarding this train at all. A few passengers were sleeping as well. Time for them had no meaning, only the aware and awake knew what station they were approaching and what station they were passing. What station was he at anyways? Where did he put his ticket? Ah...destined for the last stop. A strange feeling swept over him. It was peaceful but sad. It felt strangely good to be able to rest...but questions arose. Would he ever come back? Could he ever play his favorite board game again? Days passed on the train. Most of the passengers left. It was only a handful now and they were all destined for the last stop. As the days dwindled, he realized that the rest of the end came at the price of not knowing when he could return, if at all. The feeling grew stronger with everyday. So much left to do, he began to work on projects. Projects to ensure that others would remember him when he reached the end. He played his board game against a really strong player. With two days left he wrote a letter to the woman who probably didn't know how much he cared about her. Finally, he reached the end. Getting off the train, he finally asked, "Will I ever be able to come back?"

"No."

Taking one last look at the world behind him, he walked down the path and into the void.
