This is a fore-warning now, this post will offend someone somewhere, I warn you because my intentions are not to offend but to provoke thought on the subject
Thank you Leighton for the input you've made, I really do value hearing from you on such matters.
I see science and medicine as *unnatural* not in the sense that they should be shunned and return to a tribal society, more that with the advancements they bring they also bring a burden. People expect science to always have a cure, answer or explanation to a situation which is never always possible, we both know that we perhaps know .1% of all that there could ever be to know, this number in my view actually goes down as the years go on, not through a lack of development but more that new questions arrive in vast numbers to those that are answered.
I think that the human race isn't artificial but more detracted from the animal it is, we as species seem to be the only ones blessed and cursed with the concepts of feelings, beyond that of fear, anger and contentedness displayed in most animals.
We see a dead baby animal as something sad, horrible, wrong. Nature I feel see's this as nothing more than the course that life was set to take, to die at the claws or teeth of a predator or disease that would claim its life.
I have come to accept from speaking to and reading the comments so far received in this post that perhaps knowledge is part of our evolutionary system, while we may not genetically advance, we are culturally and technologically advancing ourselves "better". Stem Cell research is a great example of this, sadly still not entirely understood but so far a very clever solution to many normally incurable ailments.
I do believe everyone does have the right to live, regardless of what defects they are borne into this world with, no one has the right to start pointing fingers are people and stating that they are to be purged from the system. It has been my concern that my views/feelings on this matter would be misunderstood as a quest to go as far as Goebbels Final Solution to this issue, I only wish to discuss how medicine is shaping the human race it never to draw up plans or there in similar.
I do feel that the Welfare State system while a grand and noble idea, in practice is fed upon by a large number for money that they simply do not deserve. From this people are near encourage to have more children to simply get more money for nothing more than bringing another mouth into the world. It more speaks to me that people are no longer taught to be responsible for themselves, they feed from the tet of the state for everything and never put back into the system.
I would add more but at this hour my brain is rather dulled.
