Last night,
on a television show that I don't watch
(largely because it concerns an activity about which I know little and rarely participate in),
an actress whose work I know almost nothing about
(having seen her only once, playing a supporting role in a movie twenty-plus years ago)
and about whom I know basically three things
(her father's famous,
though I've seen him in only two movies and a TV guest shot,
she herself had a role in a popular eighties movie,
though of course I haven't seen it,
and she had a nose job that drastically altered her appearance,
though she was attractive before and is no more or less attractive now)
successfully won a contest where qualified judges had consistently preferred her work,
despite a concerted effort by members of the viewing public to stuff the ballot box in favor of a different candidate,
a young woman whose work I know almost nothing about,
(having never heard her speak a word on any subject, and not having any real idea what her work actually is)
and about whom I know basically two things
(her mother's famous,
though she's accomplished nothing of note save to become extremely famous,
and she herself had a child out of wedlock,
though her mother is famous for moralizing about Christian morals and conservative family values).
Should I be more concerned that I know about this event, or that I'm actually happy about it?
questions,
horror,
tv,
politics
