Graeme has now been missing since 19th December. We had a fright when the missus started calling the local vets and the first one, in Redruth, said they had had a ginger cat taken in that had been run over in Chacewater. So Mel went, and came back in floods of tears that it was graeme. I was upset, I chose graeme and named him so I was in tears. Its strange having a graeme shaped hole in our lives.
However, a couple of things struck us about the dead chap at the vets that were odd (1) He was found on the road To Redruth, which is the other side of graeme's usual territory. Graeme hated roads and was scared witless of traffic. Also another ginger stray had been reported in the area where the cat was knocked down. (2) Although one ginger tom looks like another when they are dead, this chap was smaller than graeme, had a less bushy tail and also did not have incredibly filthy paws like our graeme does, and there were no spots on the inside of his mouth like graeme has. Also we have ben reliably informed that Graeme was seen lurking around the home of one of our neighbours. He has a female Japanese bobtail cat and HAS BEEN ON HOLIDAY. So we suspect Graeme is either snaking Miss White (as she is called) or has hived off to some barn to catch mice or whatever. We know, much to our relief, that he is not in fact dead.
We are going to get another cat though as it is so odd not having a cat around. A friend of the missus has got a cat who has just dropped a litter, there are two left. One is being picked up on Christmas day and we are having the one that is left. The missus is going to Bristol in the New Year to collect it.
So whilst we miss graeme dearly its nice to rid the place of cat fur and not have him under foot. Since tom cats wander for weeks if they are minded to, we're not expecting him back any time soon.
