I'm a hypocrite and I want your money

Mar 12, 2008 14:46

As mentioned (at length) here, I'm off later next week to start my ride from John o' Groats to Land's End.

Now I'm doing this for me, it was purely inspired by the desire to ride the length of the country and connect up the people and places I know.

I've resisted thus far the shaky-tin-waving of the charity fundraiser (especially because I do the cycling I do for myself) and also because I don't like the british assumption that any endeavour must somehow be associated with charity fundraising.

Having said that, I do often put up cash at work for the inevitable sponsored fun-runs, charity walks and bean-juggling events, so don't mind so much asking them to stump up the moolah. Bryony also pointed out spontaneously that some of her work colleagues wanted to donate to whatever cause I might be supporting.

With that in mind she set up a justgiving page in my name to raise funds for my selected charity the Royal ational Lifeboat Institute.

With it being a justgiving page, I don't have anything to do with the money, so there's no chance of it "Just resting in my account" like Father Ted. Visit the page and donate if you like, I won't be offended if you don't.

Like I said before, I'm doing the ride for me - I'm not going to make a habit of raising funds in such ways but as a once off and because the JoGLE catches people's imagination, it seemed worth doing it this once.

rnli, jogle, cycling, fundraising, backtracking shamelessly
