Absolute Obedience: the Drama CD’s
You may find yourself wondering “Hey Zhores, what is all this supplemental material that you mention from time to time?” and that’s a vary good question! One I’m even going to answer, unlike the normal “when the hell did you go to sleep” questions.
Truth be told, the canon that’s readily available is in that questionable grey zone. Artbooks can only give a indicator of the character’s personality, and so 99.9% of the time I don’t count them as canon. However AO’s artbook has some dialogue written by the author of the game, so I tend to count those pictures/conversations as canon. Also there’s the anthology, which also doesn’t count as canon, but since there’s official support for the books, there’s a little wiggle room if someone wanted to use them as a reference when canon fails to provide. But that all sounds pretty sketchy right? There’s got to be more canon floating around!
And you’d be right! AO has about nine drama CD’s, all of them out of print and untranslated. But thankfully through the magic power of amazingly fail machine translators and the one cd I managed to find on a Russian forum (stop laughing, it WORKED), I can now pretty much tell you just what happens with only a few major errors... hopefully.
From what I can tell, it’s a decent amount.
Title: Zettai Fukujuu Meirei: Pianist wo Datose!
Characters: Kia, Louise, Mikhail
Plot: If we’re going in chronological order (and we are), this takes place first in the series. Whatshisname has a problem; his wife is head over heels for this Russian pianist Mikhail (played by Itou Kentarou, aka Renji from bleach and Taishiji from Koutetsu Sangokushi) and apparently spending far too much money/time on him. Clearly either Kia or Louise’s magical penis will put a stop to this! Yeah I don’t know either, but the clients tend to get glossed over pretty quickly and this time is no exception. So our two intrepid... heroes? Get right down to seducing this mysterious Russian pianist, but he has a deep dark secret...
What is this secret? I have no fucking clue. They mention America quite a few times, spies, and at one put he’s put under guard or something, so either he’s trying to escape to America, or he’s spying for them. Or something else. Either Kia or Mikhail say a word that sounds like “Zhores”, so who knows? Also Mikhail has a dead sister. Dear writers; it’s not a fundamental Russian trait to have a dead sister. Well, at least this one was younger then him.
The cd is good, with nice voice acting on the part of the mains... until you get to the sex scenes. I don’t know what the hell they were thinking, but Itou Kentarou sounds like he’s having an asthma attack while he’s being penetrated. In addition, they reused the soundtrack from the game, and I really, really would have liked to hear them carry that over with the sound effects. I’m not sure what some of those noises were, but I know they shouldn’t ever occur during sex that doesn’t require a hospital visit afterwards. It does answer the question of just what happens when Kia and Louise both want the same target, and horrible bedroom scenes aside, I really wish someone would translate it. I have a copy if anybody wants me to upload it, but I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for offers.
Title: Zettai Fukujuu Meirei: Black Pearl/Star Sapphire/Tanzanite/Diamond
Characters: Kia, Louise, Werner, Anel, Jens, Zhores, Ferdinand, Timo, Hagen, Silvio, Jens, Eduard, Lawless, Ali, and some of the tertiary characters.
Plot: This basically covers the events of the games, but hopefully adding in some further backstory. I don’t have any of these (and before shipping some of them can run up to 40$) So I can’t tell you more. Unfortunately, the people who seem to have mp3’s of the drama cd’s just seem to like making pointless lists to show that they have them, instead of providing helpful downloads. This is a shame because I’d really like some more backstory for Zhores. Or Reiner, I could live with more Reiner.

Plot: Taking place right after the S ending, Kia and Louise are doing what they do best, arguing, even though they’ve just managed to get together. This should surprise noone. However they also get a new mission along the way...
Yeah, this is yet another one that remains out of my reach. But! If I somehow make it to 30 posts on this one Chinese forum without being banned for not knowing any Chinese at all, I might be able to download them!
I hate how small my fandom is sometimes.

Plot: This is so scarce, I can just find the title and cast list. The Ao gang go on a picnic, SURELY NOTHING CAN GO WRONG.
Title: Zettai Fukujuu Meirei - Count Zero
Characters: Kia, Louise, Alec, ?
Plot: Taking place after what seems like a pretty nasty breakup, Kia and Louise deal with some painful memories and talk about old times. Also it goes more into their pasts... the fact that Alec’s in the credits doesn’t bode well. Yet another one that I wish I could find.
Title: Zettai Fukujuu Meirei - Paradise Sky
Characters: Kia, Louise, Werner, Dirk, ...Berti?
Plot: From everything I’ve read, this sounds like fallout from the last CD. Surprisingly Kia and Louise are still with their targets... but it’s obvious that most of them have been left behind. Louise and Werner are still seeing each other, but Dirk and Kia aren’t doing so well, it seems. Also Berti tries to get revenge. Oh Berti, when will you get that you fail at life?
Again, I want this one. Not only because it seems to be the last in the series, but because I want to see if any of the secondary cast members get mentioned or have epilogues.
Isn’t that a hell of a lot of canon? It sure is! Now only if I can post-grind to get those 30 comments I need to download the files...
