back from the bay area! friends, san francisco is beautiful. the presentation went well and we got some good feedback and i got to hear talks by some scientists i wanted to. the air buzzed with the sheer concentration of nerds in one place. i went to alcatraz and chinatown and city lights bookstore and walked up and down a lot of hills. went to berkeley and the campus was gorgeous. we went to a good indian restaurant and had pizza and beer in north beach. and i didn't buy anything much... cos i forgot to tell visa i was leaving the country, and they froze my credit card. oops.
importantly, the presentation went pretty smoothly and the people in our niche topic seemed really interested in what we had to say. really the schmooze-type sessions were considerably more anxiety-provoking. am i happy to be back? yes. but also happy to be making baby steps into the field, and you know, dealing with being shy.
