I loved this! I love it when things tie in later and foreshadowing is one of my favorite things.
I have a theory that the Observers made the machine a long time ago in a third (yellow) universe...which I assume is where they originate from. And they used it once (before they got into the Observe Only mentality) and afterwards they realized the destructiveness of it was so obscene...they spread it across the other two universes to keep it from being made again but now it seems it will come to that again. And they need to correct that mistake. Just a theory.
