UPDATED 4-2-2011! Look, I did a thing! ... four months later yes I know shut up :(

WARNING! There is going to be triggering content and some nsfw sexual discussion, the first because Kaito has ridiculous issues and the sexond (LEAVING THE TYPO, THANKS :'D) because I am ridiculous, period. The second is in its own section; I'll remove this warning ( Read more... )

PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: how he ticks was_no_miracle April 2 2011, 21:04:54 UTC
MACHINERY was_no_miracle April 2 2011, 21:38:45 UTC
Kaito's largest differences from a normal human being are in his skeleton. All of his bones have been replaced with various man-made materials, mostly a medical-grade titanium alloy. This was originally in order to provide greater stability for the computer housed in his midsection, but has the beneficial side effect of making it imposible to break any of his bones.

In addition, his major joints (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, wrists, and ankles) have been augmented with gears and related machinery, again for stability. These are all currently in various states of disrepair, and are quite noisy as a result- Kaito makes a low level whirring noise when he moves normally, and certain movements make him creak like old playground equipment. He is capable of moving without engaging any gears, and does so when he feels the need for stealth, but the result looks extremely unnatural. The noise will even out and fade as his body finishes healing.

COMPUTER was_no_miracle April 2 2011, 22:38:38 UTC
There is a computer- or rather, several computers- housed in Kaito's midsection, with a port for interfacing located on his lower back, a few inches to the left of his spine. It comes in several parts:

DATABASE: Exactly what it sounds like. Primarily taken up by language information consisting of a speech recognition program, a dictionary/encyclopedia, syntax rules, and writing recognition. This is what allowed Kaito to understand speech and read without having to be explicitly taught, although there are limitations (and it was much less helpful in teaching him how to speak and write for himself). It also has a rather sophisticated program, nearly an AI in itself, for interfacing with the human brain and using the information gained to decide when and what information to present. No longer in heavy use, as Kaito has learned to understand speech on his own, but still necessary for reading anything beyond very basic kanji.

MOVEMENT/VITAL SIGNS: Acts as a backup to the brainstem and synchronizes gear and muscle activity via the parts ( ... )

BIOLOGY was_no_miracle April 4 2011, 00:12:54 UTC
Not gonna lie, this part will contain a good deal of handwaving and bullshittery. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE A MEDICAL DEGREE but you want to hash out every little detail of... a character that could not possibly exist in real life anyway lololo

blood, organs, nerves was_no_miracle April 4 2011, 00:20:58 UTC
His organs have been slightly shifted around to provide room/a biological cooling system for the computers.

His blood is slightly thicker and darker than normal human blood, and clots quickly. It's also inhospitable to infectious organisms. (I have not yet decided if this is due to some sort of chemistry change or if it's caused by some sort of protonanobot- I should discuss the possibility of the latter with miraculost.) Similar changes have carried over to all of his organs; this is how he has not died from massive infection of his seams or... well, ever gotten sick due to infection at all in his life ( ... )
