What can be accomplished without kids to care for

Dec 17, 2008 22:59

I dropped the kids off at school at 9am this morning and I had until 6pm to myself as they were being collected from school and fed their dinner by their wonderful grandparents. Ergo, I had NINE hours to myself. I haven't had nine hours to myself since 2002 when my son was born. I was very excited.

Without kids to worry about, feed, taxi, wipe, help downstairs-cos-they-are-scared-of-the-bogeyman, I managed to write 5,500 words of Vakr, go to the cinema and see Inkheart AND The Day The World Stood Still, and go food shopping. I put up Xmas decorations, and did all the usual household tasks.

I wore high heeled boots. I blow dried my hair so it shone like it should. I had no one following me to the toilet. Even the cat went out, I didn't even have her on my lap wanting to be stroked while I was writing.

What a fantastic day. *Sigh*

Tomorrow I finish Vakr. I'm sitting on 94,000 words of an estimated 96,000. Honestly? This is going to go to 100k, which is Harper Collins maximum limit and it will go to 100k because of a sex scene that needs to be there and it needs to be long and it needs to be tender and unrushed. I can edit earlier chapters down, and I will if I have to, because the ending is good and right and needs to unfold as it is doing.
