I wandered in search of this one, because I have a certain interest in the Victorian period..And two, because I periodicly actually use a cane for it's intended purpose... What can I say?..Too much abuse of the knees as a younger man...
And during the Victorian {as well as other periods} a man's stick was a useful means of defense.. Benefitting from it's simple innocuous nature.
*grin*
I did find considerably more than I was looking for.
http://ejmas.com/jmanly/jmanlyframe.htm INterestingly enough.. I found another site that had many of the original illustrations.. One of the things I noticed was the predominance of "Hanging guard".. Something that isn't much taught in these days of "sport fencing".
