"No way," Came the reply, immediate and asserted, "If I do that, I'll have to keep going back again, and then we'd never be done!"
Of course, this assertion, as anyone could see, was deeply out of place among the midst of wobbling, brittle dishes that constantly threatened to topple over. Truth be told; Luffy did not enjoy washing dishes. Not only did it take forever to shake and rinse the soap water off his rubbery hand, but those much-too-fragile dishes would often earn him a smack on the head and an extension of debt from Nami. He wanted to get things done, and fast --because there was a whole island of untouched caves and creatures awaiting him just outside.
Usopp groaned, quickly looking away from the unsteady stack of dishes in Luffy's arms, as if not actually seeing them tip over would stop them from crashing to the floor in a shattered mess. It was always possible they might make it to the sink unharmed; stranger things had happened, especially out on the Grand Line. Usopp set his more modest stack of plates into the sink and began running the hot water, dumping in a large amount of powered dish soap and watching it froth up in suds as he half-listened for the telltale crash that might or might not be coming from behind him.
For a moment, Luffy was careful. Moments like these were rare and, unfortunately, brief, usually happening in the interval between distraction and more distraction. As the mountain of dishes swayed above him, he instinctively learned their rhythm, and moved his feet to adapt nimbly. A wide grin formed on his lips as he savoured his little achievement, before that grin became a smirk; For Luffy, achievement only meant higher ambition.
He plopped his stack on one hand, not flinching at all from the sudden shift of weight as his raw strength more than made up for it, and threw his other arm across the galley to where another stack of dishes sat comfortably. His arm entwined around that stack, and once secure, retracted.
Little did Luffy know that a stack of dishes, when pulled across the room at considerable speed, would, naturally, not remain a stack any longer.
He'd already begun wiping some of the plates clean in the hot, soapy water, and was just rinsing them off when Usopp belatedly realized that not only had he not heard a crash, but that Luffy still hadn't arrived at the sink at all. Maybe he'd actually--shockingly--heeded Usopp's advice, or at least he must be proceeding with extreme care. That would explain why he wasn't here yet, and also why he hadn't smashed anything. Usopp couldn't help but let a self-satisfied smile creep onto his face--after all, it must have been his amazing advice that had convinced Luffy to be more careful. Flicking suds from his hands, he turned, intending to congratulate his captain on a job well done

A rain of cheap ceramic was catapulted right at them, but Luffy stood his ground, merely blinking as they made impact. The first few bounced off him completely and subjected their destructive onto the much more innocent kitchen cabinets and chairs (this ability clearly becoming a constant reminder to all just how much of a lucky bastard he truly was), and as if that wasn't enough, the next few launched their attack on his mountain of plates, scattering them in every direction. Plates fell one by one, the loud, clamorous sound becoming incessant, and white shards along with little morsels of food slid around on the floor.
Usopp compromised, standing behind Luffy and managing to snatch a few of the plates that fell, though it was only three or four out of the countless ones in the stack. Then he gave up, just shutting his eyes tight until the crashing stopped and Luffy spoke.
"Well, what did you expect?!" Usopp wailed in reply, daring to open one eye to survey the damage. He groaned again, and began mentally drafting his will. "Remind me to explain physics to you sometime," he sighed, setting the few intact plates in his hands onto the table.
"Heh. I just thought I could clean more plates at once. Guess it didn't quite work out, huh?" Luffy laughed heartily at the mess he caused, one hand clutching his stomach and the other slapping his thigh to complete the gesture. He plopped down into a wide squat, a soft 'boing' produced when his knees took the weight, and picked at the shards, "At least they'll be easier to clean now, right? Don't look so down!"
Usopp gave him a flat look of disbelief. "Easier to clean?? There's nothing left to clean!" He also dropped down to his haunches, poking carefully through the shards of broken dishes looking for any that might miraculously remain unbroken, or at least looked like they might be salvageable. He was already going through his glue recipe for his Sticky Stars in his mind, trying to decide if he could adapt it in some way to fix at least some of these dishes. Most of them were in so many pieces it looked like a lost cause, though. He made a pained whining sound before speaking. "Luffy. Nami is going to kill us. Sanji probably will, too! You'll be all right--mostly. Probably.--but what about me?? I'm delicate!! I'll be dead twice over!"
