Really bad things: The telephone call you NEVER want to get: "This is Magistrate so and so. Did you forget you had a settlement conference starting 15 minutes ago in my courtroom?" "TODAY? MY SCHEDULE SAYS THURSDAY!!!" "Be here in half hour."
Really Good Things! 1. Torchwood Season 4. With Captain Jack and Gwen. (Yes, I love Gwen, almost as much as I love Captain Jack. So sue me.) 2. Everybody was really nice about my being late and horribly underdressed for court. 3. We got the issues settled and the parties divorced without blood shed. (Hurray for the problem-solving model of lawyering.) 4. UPS just brought me a) 2 con tshirts; b) Naamah's Curse by Jacqueline Carey, (a day before the pub date, btw; how come my C.J. Cherryh books never get here early?!?) Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton and the second season of True Blood (I don't get cable TV, so it's new to me.) Yeah for holding on to one's Xmas gift cards! 5. Already delivered by USPS today: a 16g mp3 player (sale! plus accessories!) (NOT an ipod) for the very very long drive I'm undertaking. 6. Jo Walton's ( papersky ) Tor review of Deceiver.
Bad things: 1. Torchwood Season 4 - in 2011. On Starz. 2. I don't have time to read or watch any of the #4 because I'm so far behind with work and trying to get ready to go. 3. I couldn't watch the DVD's on my TV anyway because when Time Warner Gobble recently changed its programming, the Rube Goldberg version of DVD to tuner to TV cabling that I was using just stopped working. (This could be because my TV's 83 years old, and when I took a photo of the jacks on the back to radio shack, the kid just laughed at me.) 4. I really want the theme from HBO's Rome but it's not available on mp3 and darned if I'm going to buy an entire cd for one earworm. (It's just that it's been so .. . .persistent. I haven't watched Rome in a couple of years, at least.)
WTF thing: 1. 4 ice cubes, from 4 different ice trays, suicided on the kitchen floor over the course of today. I guess chill is a terrible thing to waste. 2. I just realized how much sex must be packed into that Barnes and Noble box. . . .
