Warren Zevon is sleeping finally, but his music continues to echo.
Depression is a chemical imbalance of the brain. Or the result of thinking too much.
I"ve been thinking: too much.
Totally blowing Grapemo - not a good thing.
Hating work - not so good. (more a function of everybody's too broke to pay me. Why bother?)
Taxes due - oh, really really not so good.
Out of money - Well, it's not like I'm the only one. Right? In fact, I paid this month's rent, so the wolves aren't at the door this month . . .
My productivity sucks.
Antidotes to depression, besides eating sugar, include sunshine (not in evidence here, even during the ostensibly daylit hours), purring cats, and anticipation of good things:
New Shadow Unit Monday!
yuki_onna will be bringing some version of her marvelous Palimpsest show to Mac's Back's in Cleveland. DEFINITELY looking forward to that. (Not, of course, to mention the book itself!)
And I have new strings for my guitar, and a shiny electronic tuner, so I can play sad and deep Leonard Cohen and Warren Zevon and Janis Ian and Ferron songs. (Hmmn. Maybe this isn't really productive in the not being depressed way).
And Amanda Downum
stillsostrange and
matociquala and
truepenny and others all have (non-Shadow Unit) wordage headed my way, along with that of the goddess, C.J. Cherryh.
Oh, and Betty? my Scion XD? Has a warning light when the windshield wiper fluid gets low. I'm still giggling. (Since I usually run out in the middle of a bad snow/sleet storm with lots of mud flying off the roads . . . )
Juliett Marillier's Bridei Chronicles are far surpassing my expections. I'm almost halfway through #2, Blade of Fortriu.
One last word, on the internet/Scalzi kerfluffle about authors being 'late' with new books. Oh, ferhevens sake. As a reader, I want you authors to take ALL OF THE TIME YOU NEED to write. Yes, I want a new book from you every month. Or week. But I'd like chocolate for breakfast every morning and a heated pool in my living room. Point being, if you're worth reading, you're worth waiting for. (No big heads out there, now). And in the meantime, we have discovered -- reading not being a zero-sum game - - that your down time might lead us to browse the bookstore for new authors to read. After all, that's how I found most of you! (Except you know, that internet pimping thing you'all do for each other? Works!)
