Top Ten Favorite Holiday Movies

10. Gremlins: Yay a christmas movie about  creepy little monsters trying to kill people! Honestly what more can you ask for? Then again my family (and probably a larger number of other families) are pretty morbid as far as it goes. It definitely something that would've freaked me out when I was little given what a wuss I was (and still am).

9. Christmas in Connecticut: More for it`s screwball, golden age of Hollywood feel than anything. There are also some awesome performances in it by a lot of actors who are in pretty much every film from that time. Barbara Standwick too (and yes she can do comedy. I was surprised too).

8. Muppets Christmas Carol: Tee hee~ second best  film verison of the Christmas Carol ever. Unlike the crappy one Disney made last year (Jim Currey`s performance was like Mr. Burns than like Scrooge). Probably, my favourite muppets production ever (and that`s saying alot). Particularly Gonzo and Rizzo`s bits. Also, responsible for my favorite ghost of christmas past ever (ghost of christmas past generally sucks. I guess it`s hard to make someone look like a young boy and an old man at the same time. Well not anymore, but point stands).

7. Jesus Christ Superstar: I like the music, and watching a movie that`s actually about Jecus around Easter. Easter, not exactly being a big holiday anymore now that nobody celebrates Lent, even if it is my favorite religous holiday. Any how...

6. A Christmas Story: Because it`s just funny.

5. Home Alone: Mostly the fifteen to twenty minutes of slapstick. I know most people like the plot inspite of the slapstick, but I like it because of the slapstick (though other parts are good too). Some years my family only watch those fifteen minutes, since we've seen the rest of the movie so much that were sick of it. Even, if the rest of the movie is good too.

4. The Nightmare Before Christmas: Only Halloween movie on the list.. I liked before it was popular way back in 1993. Even though I was a total wimp about even slightly scary stuff (I was afraid to see Lord of the Rings). Two weeks from now I`ll probably be watching it. And yes I am well aware that it's a Christmas movie. I don't care. I watch it on Halloween.

3. Pieces of April: One of my favorite movies anyways (though really most of the ones on the list are). It's just really well-written and easy to relate to all the characters. It's more indie and probably not watched that much, which is a shame, because I believe a lot of famlies are like the one in the movie, and the movie shows that no matter how much you may annoy or hate each other, you kind of care/love each other too. I know 90% of holiday movies (particularly Christmas or Thanksgiving) are about that, but this one doesn't feel gimmicky to me or emotionally manipulative. Just kind of real.

2-1. Tokyo Godfathers and Scrouge: Tie because I love them both so much. Of course Scorage rules for "Thank you very much" perhaps the most morbidly funny moment in any movie. Also, interesting in that it's one of the few movies for Scorage to see himself in hell before he comes to his senses. And Tokyo Godfathers is the most beautifully animated thing ever. Also, full of symbolism , like most of Satoshi Kon's stuff (RIP), but in a calmer way than everything else he did.
