Just a quick heads up: I went to see Letters from Iwo Jima tonight.
I happen to like it myself and you can see how it ties into Flags of our Fathers rather well. I know a lot of people are gonna say "Why do you wanna watch a movie that glorifies war?" or some such. To those ESPECIALLY I recommend watching it, AND Flags of our Fathers.
I'm pro military. Even if they get stuck in the stupidest conflicts cause of our politicians, I support those who are being sent by their country's order to serve, because I'm a member of a military family. No, not just because of that, but because I feel it's the right thing to do.
Say I'm a warmonger? Go ahead. The men who have served our country, bled for it and died for it deserve our utmost respect. As well, those who are GOING to go and serve our country deserve our support.
Say that all soldiers are scum and violate peace? Tell that to my goddamn father. He served his country and from what I've heard of him, he's never had to enter combat but he still served in the military and did so with pride and dignity. Even though he's retired he's still helping his community by helping to support a local kids basketball program.
I wear red every friday to support my country's men and women in the line of duty. When my friend goes to join the armed forces and starts to serve, I will be especially wearing red. I have another friend at least who's got a brother in the forces and I'm supporting him too.
I apologize, my rant does come off a bit harsh, but I believe strongly in the Servicemen and women of this country, and point of fact all countries. Even if we were to go to war, I would still insist enemy soldiers are offered the proper and due treatment if held captive.
