I have a theory... (jauntily sung a la Buffy)
After hours spent pondering I believe I have the answer to the question that has been plaguing gamers. Where do we they go from here? (bonus score - dual reference) It boils down to escalation. We began the day with Red, Blue and Yellow. Then followed Gold, Silver and Crystal. Things were broken up slightly with FireRed and LeafGreen but then recovered with Ruby, Saphire and Emerald. The cycle of threes has (barely) been maintained it must continue! But now we have Diamond and Pearl. What can possibly trump that and maintain the trinity?
I sat here and I thought, "Nothing trumps diamond. They have undone themselves." But then I realised it's all a fallacy! The three don't have to genuinely link they just have to look like they do... to a six year old child. Crystal is not truely on par with gold and silver it just seems like it is since it's similarly expensive. Just as pearl doesn't truely compare with diamond neither does the third DS ititeration have to.
Thusly I present to you the solution I theorise: The third DS iterartion shall be called Pokemon - Opal!
It's obscure engough that people will know it's expensive but the majority won't recall how much. Instead of being linked to a single colour like the deep blue of Diamond and the pastel pink of pearl, it can be shiny multicolours. It doesn't trump diamond by any means but it's engough of a jump sideways (much like pearl) that it won't be noticed... right?
