... and fun was had by all

Jon and I headed down to Mandurah for the New Year weekend with a bunch of friends from wai-con. There was even a representative of AVcon, namely Drew who happened to be in Perth for Christmas. We ended up dragging him down for some New Year’s mischief. Someone’s family owned a truly gigantic house on the estuary and he was kind enough to let everyone stay there for the weekend. It was nice and close to the beach too. We ended up going down there on the first day. It was a fairly choppy so I stayed really close to shore despite Jon’s best efforts to pull me in deeper. He seems to have decided that he’s going to get me to overcome my fear of large waves no matter what… either that or he likes seeing me absolutely terrified. Personally I’m quite happy to stick to the shore unless the ocean is calm. I don’t feel that I’m missing out at all.

Isn’t it funny I start trying to talk about all the fun I had on the weekend and somehow by the end of the paragraph it’s getting all emotional. The power of livejournal compels you!

Anyway, it was a lovely large house so even with 16 or more people it didn’t seem crowded at all. For some reason there were mattresses galore in the back shed so even those who missed out on rooms (like us) had a pretty comfortable sleep on the floor. I ended up opening Cooking Mama DS which was my Christmas present from Jon and I have really been enjoying it. Although I doubt it will meet Jon’s hopes and result in me being a better cook.

Everyone brought down loads of boardgames, consoles, video games, DVD’s and music. So there was plenty of stuff to do. I really enjoyed being able to play some games with a huge number of players. Oh, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing singstar with all the different versions and all the people getting into it. The final countdown was great with everyone singing/yelling at the top of their lungs and some people doing air guitar solos.

We ate surprisingly well considering it was a whole bunch of twenty-somethings on holiday. I think I had at least one if not two wholesome meals each day. Not exactly healthy food but not junkfood either. Although, there was some of that around and plenty of alcohol too. No one got seriously smashed just mildly… well maybe one or too people did after all I wasn’t up for the whole night. The house didn’t get trashed either just a little messy which I helped clean up every now and then. It didn’t look too bad when we left to go home. The drive to and back was a little jammed but Jon did manage to find himself a couple of Transformers he was chasing on the way.

It was basically a nice relaxing weekend end which is kinda what I needed. Even if I did miss my folks a little, since I normally spend New Year’s with them. I do wish I had gone for a walk along the river at night but it didn’t really occur to me at the time. It was back to work today and I’m not suffering from the amount of fun and lack of sleep from the weekend. But even if I was there are barely any people in the office to notice.

friends, convention, jon
